ah... Now I feel I should Include the list mainly as more votes are always better and also the amount of time gone into making the lists.

As you've posted it I'll accept the vote - I feel more votes is better than obeying a time limit on open votes

Apologies if that annoys anyone - but more votes is a better sample and if anyone else has gone to the trouble of a list then post it and I'll include it.
This may come as a shock to some but i actually agree with emptybox! I did notice when Bg posted that it "apppeared" to be the same as mine and knowing him as well as i do, i knew what he was upto (the amount of work he said was put into it was a big clue) lol I didnt say anything at the time as i wasnt 100% sure as i didnt check the whole thing, but i have now and i can confirm the bottom two have since (i looked) been changed lol

Anyway, whilst i understand your wish to allow late votes to bump up the total, there has to be a point when you say enough is enough, otherwise you may have an endless stream of late posts even after you start posting the results! So you must draw the line somewhere and not keep allowing later and later posts, otherwise you will be continually having to update your counting and never get to the end of it! I dont mind if you want to accept more votes and extend the time limit but you really have to pick a DEFINITE FINAL date and stick to it no matter what, it doen't matter when just as long as it is really FINAL otherwise it will never end !

The one thing that wouldnt stop is if someone put there fav at no.1 and least fav at no.2, only listing those two hms, then they'd know they'd still be giving their fav the max boost over their least fav without even bothering with the rest? That is why i think it would be unfair to give them the same reward as someone taking the time to do a full list - thats a LOT more effort! and the former would offer a very easy get out for someone who only cares who comes top or bottom? For me it should be about what (who) you post not what (who) you dont. If you dont post their not counted simple
I don't think they'd be getting the same reward, because they wouldn't be making any distinction between any other HMs. As I said earlier, the fuller reward is that your rankings make a difference to every HM (vs every other HM.)

The problem with "if you don't post (their names), they aren't counted" is that in effect they're just given fewer points than even your least favourite HM. The current system doesn't make leaving them out a neutral act. (It's neutral only re how they rank vs each other.)

I don't think there are many people who care only about how their favourite fares vs their least favourite and not at all about anything else.

I don't want people submitting just two names, but I also think the poll should reflect what people actually think of the HMs. If someone list their bottom HMs, they presumably don't think those HMs are better than everyone they've left out. (If they do think that, then those aren't really their bottom HMs.)

However, in a way the problem arises only because some people want to list their bottom HMs (as well as, or instead of, their top ones). Perhaps, keeping the current system, it just needs to be made very clear to people that the HMs they list will all get more points than the ones they leave out, so that it only makes sense to list your top HMs.

... But then there's the problem of people who didn't watch some of the BBs:

People submit partial lists because they didn't watch some series. Reserved's list above only has BB1-3 housemates, presumably because those are the only shows they watched. 36 would be a pretty high-scoring position for a housemates that is least liked.

If you only include full lists then you are only going to get votes from those who have stuck with the show from the first series till the latest. A diminishing number of lists year on year.
There are also other reasons why people submit partial lists, but let's look at that one.

I wonder if there's a mathematical way to avoid disadvantaging HMs who are left out because some people didn't watch their series -- perhaps by giving them the average rating they'd get from other people? That wouldn't quite be right, though ... It needs some thought.

Meanwhile, I think some people are dealing with series they didn't watch, or HMs they don't remember, by putting some HMs in but not really ranking them. Their series, or most of it, goes in as a block, perhaps even in alphabetical order.

(Someone who just wanted to give "their fav the max boost over their least fav" could do that by including in a random or other order, without caring about that part.)

Ah I didn't check that the vote was the same as yours - in that case it won't be counted - copying other people's lists and ramping a HM to a win isn't in the spirit of the game and actually happened on the XF one I did - in that instance 3 votes were discounted. As the list (barring 1 move) is the same as yours then that vote won't be counted in the overall results

Hmm!
Obviously you must make your own decision, and I've no problem with bluegroper being able to submit a list, but when he said a lot of thought had gone into his list he was joking.

bluegroper's list is just an exact copy and paste of Barracute's list

After I'd quoted Aisleyne's place he went back and edited to swap Helen and Aisleyne round, but that's the only difference.
Thanks for the heads up - I hadn't given the list a full look through - as its a copy and paste barring 1 move, it won't be xounted

Meanwhile, I think some people are dealing with series they didn't watch, or HMs they don't remember, by putting some HMs in but not really ranking them. Their series, or most of it, goes in as a block, perhaps even in alphabetical order.

(Someone who just wanted to give "their fav the max boost over their least fav" could do that by including in a random or other order, without caring about that part.)
Maybe a minimum of say 50 tops and 25 bottoms (or just 75 ranked)with the remainder all given the same mid point place (I don't know if this ruins the stats maths wise).
If someone new did that then they might be encouraged to increase the depth of their ranking the next year.

200. Sally Broadbent

I was glancing at your list and thought "who the ******* hell is Sally Broadbent?"

I wonder who the most anonymous housemate is-4 day Laura maybe but I remember her because of that and David from BB8 for the same reason.

Well I immediately remembered that Sally was half of the Broadbent twins from a couple of years ago, so she can't have been that forgettable?
Mind you, I had to go and look to see that the other was called Amy.

I did something similar. I have never watched BB1 or BB2 so, when I first started these lists I put all those housemates in the middle of the list. I don't think it was alphabetical order, I think I just based it on someone else's order but, statistically, there were enough other housemates for the specific order to not matter that much.

I've moved a few around since then as I've seen them in other things and formed opinions on them but that's how I initially handled it.

You're probably right about copy and pasting, as it would make it too easy for fans of a particular HM to bump them up, without doing any work themselves.

I remember a number of years ago the Administrator of a Chanelle forum I was a member of posted a 'suggested' list, but emphasised that people should shuffle them around a bit before posting. Four or five didn't bother and copy and pasted wholesale, and were disqualified as a result.
I didn't emtertain the list myself as I always do my own, and he had Chanelle at the top and Aiseyne at the bottom, in the mistaken belief that Aisleyne was the biggest threat to stop Chanelle winning it. As it turned out I think Chanelle came in around 63 that year. (think Ash was No 4?)

But I've got no problem if bluegroper wants to submit a more 'considered' list today sometime, if you're still accepting entries, and he's not disqualified.
Any points (even 1) for Aisleyne are welcome, and I've no problem with Nikki getting points, as I gave her 262 myself.

TBH if he hadn't put Aisleyne right at the bottom I probably wouldn't have even looked back at Barracute's list.
But I know that bluegroper usually holds a more benign view of her than Barracute.

ETA: And as to the rules of the poll, I think they are fine as they are.
If you submit a full list then your favourite gets maximum points. A partial list and they get less points, so it's up to you.
And if you are submitting a partial list just list your top 20 or top 100 or whatever, don't try to tell us who your most disliked are. That's something for another thread or another poll.

Yes that was a mistake I didn't notice she was right at the end either. I actually like Aislyene more then that position. Better to discount it.

Have fun guys I won't be putting a list in.

Ok but do you have an actual end date in mind yet, it has to end sometime after all!?!? or are you intending to leave it open ended a bit longer? I am sure you want to get the count completed at some point, so you really need to pick a final and definitive end date, one you will stick to, so everyone knows, and most importantly anyone who hasnt voted knows how long they have left to do so?

Well I immediately remembered that Sally was half of the Broadbent twins from a couple of years ago, so she can't have been that forgettable?
Mind you, I had to go and look to see that the other was called Amy.
I think it was right at the beginning of BB17 that Rylan apparently forget the Broadbents (BB16!) on BOTS. (I guess they must have been discussing Victoria and Emma at the time.)

So the answer is yes.

I liked Emma and Victoria, this year's twins, but I do think that C5's BB does seem to like having twins. It comes across that they put them in the house just because they are twins. We've had three sets of twins in the past four series.

You're probably right about copy and pasting, as it would make it too easy for fans of a particular HM to bump them up, without doing any work themselves. ...
It's pretty easy to put the HMs in a random order and then just move the ones you care about.

I was glancing at your list and thought "who the ******* hell is Sally Broadbent?"

I wonder who the most anonymous housemate is-4 day Laura maybe but I remember her because of that and David from BB8 for the same reason.
Sometimes when I can't remember a HM just from their series and name, and then look them up, I find that I remember them once I've seen a bit more about them (such as a picture), and they can be someone I thought was significant

As there seems to be no more interest in votes - voting is closed for the third and final time

Thankyou - and this time please make sure it really is !

so that means we have had 53 this year compared to 63 last year. A drop of 10 isnt as bad as i thought it might be.

Last year there was 7 days between closure and start of the countdown, so should have been Sat just if it was the same. OP posted a new thread last Friday but not been near here or given any update. Too busy watching BB15 i guess !

@yohinnchild I seem to remember it's your birthday around now. A very Happy Birthday to you!

I'm looking forward to seeing this year's results in a few days' time There are always a few milestones I like to pass and so far I've always passed them but I've a feeling this year's going to be tougher. I shall await your excellent statistical analysis with baited breath as ever.
