I think the winter will see them all drop like flies. I can't see this lasting a year.
Agreed - most of them give the impression that they will walk once the going gets in any way tough. The attitude so far from the majority of them is that it is some sort of fun adventure holiday.

The Winter will bring freezing temperatures, gales, loads of precipitation, many hours of darkness, dwindling food (they almost certainly haven't managed to plant enough crops and I doubt that they'll manage their livestock effectively) and amplify any tensions and divisions in the group due to the fact that they'll be increasingly stuck indoors in damp and cold conditions (I also doubt that they'll get their act together on Winter-hardened accommodation).

My guess would be that the producers will give them quite a bit of support behind the scenes to make sure that they get a full year of TV programming out of the show.

No doubt! And if all the 'weaker' ones where to leave, the program producers will be left will a handful of hard-core survivalists, which won't be much of a community to watch. As much as I find some of them too laid back when it comes to getting the essentials done, they will need the conflict / co-operation / differences to ultimately build a community rather than just have survivors.

I guess in reality, the first year would be just survival, and the 'community' part would evolve later. I wonder if any of them would like to make it a 10 year experiment?

Well I am sure there will be certain interjections to ensure the project keeps going, i.e. little boosts/outside help.

At the end of last week's episode, they said someone was leaving.....any guesses as to who it might be? I am thinking maybe Raphael, the carpenter since he is very disenchanted by so many there.

You obviously missed the memo that says in today's society, people can't have failures or disappointments any more - everything is awesome (TM) all the time and if you are faced with any sort of a challenge just retreat into your 'safe space' and blame your problem on someone else's perceived 'meanness'.

People are now making it into their 30s with less maturity and emotional balance than I would expect of an 18 year old.
Definitely alot of truth in that, anyone younger than around thirty-five-years-old probably has been brought by parents who told them they are wonderful and exceptional even when the screw things up woefully.

That must cause huge immaturity later on if your parents don't tell you when you are being a little sh*t.

Maybe , when the temperature drops dangerously low, even an arranged mass overnight stay at a hotel....hushed up of course!

Oh Amyawake, why so cynical, it is the only thing that is watchable on Channel 4 at the moment. I think there will only be two or three more episodes in this run as well, as they are already up to May 2016 and will have caught up to end of July after six episodes at the current rate.

Then we will be left watching: dogs, dates, dinners and nude exhibitionists again.

GAWD help us!!!!!!

Oh I said that tongue-in-cheek fashion .... bit of a longshot that they would resort to hotels if weather gets dangerous. Don't get me wrong I like the programme and seem to be a lone voice here in not being so critical of the participants.

I hope not he is one of the best ones there.

Where the hell is the nearest hotel?!

They would have to travel miles, poor things it would wear them out.

Surely you know how Channel 4 twists people in the edits by now on these type of shows?

You get the given impression someone is failing/losing he plot, but the outcome is different to what you expect.

Pubs in Salen and Acharacle, lots of B&B and guest hous3es

Ok I see, know you are a big fan too.

Don't think we need to worry about the producers allowing any of the group to abscond to a five-star hotel, they will kick them out if they do that as I'm sure they want this to be a recurring series like The Island, and Channel 4 won't want to be ridiculed.

However, wannabe gatecrashers has to be a serious threat, remember this only started airing about a month ago, we may see incursions happening when the footage catches up to the air date.

C5 had to move the participants to a hotel in 10,000BC on one occasion when it snowed heavily, so it's always going to be a possibility if a situation warrants it, after all, they have a duty of care towards the people taking part.

I suspect that the producers will try to mitigate anything like that happening if at all possible and will probably try to direct the participants to do certain things at certain times so that they're as prepared as possible, for example making sure that the 'winter camp' is built in good time, that the seeds weren't planted too late etc. They're bound to have regular contact even if we don't see it (as we did in 10,000BC) whether directly or via the cameramen. After all, the footage from everybody's cameras need collecting and there must be hundreds of batteries that need regular replacement or recharging.

I do believe the producers would like the whole whole thing to be as authentic as possible, but at the end of the day they have a legal duty of care to make sure everyone is as safe as can be expected. If the shelter(s) are badly made and the weather drops, they couldn't just do nothing as they get hypothermia or injuries etc. On 10,000 BC, they all decamped to a hotel when the wind and snow got really bad and when they came back, a tree had toppled over right next to their camp.
As long as the program is HONEST and shows us any outside help they get, I think it's fine if it's only in the last resort.
Having said that, the boat bringing chocolate etc isn't good, it does undermine the whole thing, and even reminds the participants of what they are missing.

I did watch 10,000 BC and had a vague memory of when they temporarily decamped to a hotel; this is what prompted my suggestion of the possibility that the same might happen in the Eden project. (I don't think I stayed with the whole series though...think it got too samey/monotonous for me and the participants not sufficiently engaging).

It was very bizarre mix of people, some of them really seemed to think they'd applied to Big brother or something. In contrast, some of the others worked really hard to make it work. I hope Eden doesn't continue go down the same route. It would be interesting to see some really inventive solutions to making shelters, getting food and creating a workable community... instead of the just all the in-fighting and egos.

They need to get stuck in, check out this guy on Youtube / Primitive Technology... the stuff he does with next to nothing is incredible!

I had a look last week to try and work out what the penalty was but could not find but other breaches of the Act seem to incur a £1000 fine so possibly the same.

Sounds like we are not going to see a budding Ray Mears or Bush Tucker Bloke developing on Eden anytime soon, as the continuity announcer on Channel 4 last night said in Big Brotheresque style, someone is leaving tonight.

More couples tiffs, infighting and general social dysfunction, and not much building or farming.
