Whilst I am a player of Pokémon Go (when it loads in), I am concerned a little with how some people go about it. There have been aricles of people doing really stupid things whilst playing the game; walking into a police station on a Pokémon hunt, walking out into traffic, hell, two guys in California even managed to walk off a cliff.

...then there's those videos all up on YouTube/Facebook where people are stopping their cars on the main road outside National Park so they can go and catch a Charizard or Vaporeon or whatever it was.

It's a little... over the top? I'd think this more an enjoyable and casual game. Some people seem to be taking it far too seriously.

Just heard a story about someone who dialed 999 because someone stole their Pokemon.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016...stole-their-p/

The police apparently gave the caller some "words of advice" about the matter. 😂

You listening to BBC Radio 2 by any chance? They've not long reported this.

I guess the Trainer in question should have used Protect.

Radio 1 actually. Clinging onto the tattered remnants of my youth for dear life before the inevitable slide into Radio 2 land.

Unfortunately Radio 2 is the default radio channel voted for by the majority at work. Wouldn't be my choice of station if I had one.

But it's not really about gaming, it's about people playing it just because everybody else is.

I think the majority on this forum know this is something you do, not me. You're only saying this because i called you out on it on the Tennis thread when Murray won Wimbledon. Grow up.

I remember a time when friends and family looked down on my silly hobby. Now, large numbers of my colleagues, friends, family..... even my Mother, regularly play games in one form or another.

Videogames are continuing to prove themselves as a valid form of entertainment. With VR around the corner, we might be about to start a whole new chapter.

Bring it on, I say.”

I don't see what me posting about Big Brother has to do with this so i have no idea why you bought that up.

It also won't make any difference to gaming, gaming is already on top. People who don't play games aren't suddenly going to play a bunch because of Pokemon Go.

I just don't like fad's. It's all very sheepish.

Whilst you might be able to have fun with this game if you have other things to do you will fall far behind. I'm still only level 6 but all the gym trainers are 15-20 with pokemon power in the thousands already, with my highest being 250.

To echo what I said earlier, this game (and others like it) should be something casual. Some people are taking it far too seriously, and are playing it as often as they can; that is quite sad; that said people have such boring lives that this suddenly becomes a highlight.

One of the great problems in life is that people insist on doing whatever the hell they want.

I wish people would shut up moaning about it and putting it and the people who play it down, but we can't all get what we want.

Managed to take down a local gym which had a 1200 Lapras and a 1400 Snorlax with my 500 Pidgeot alongside my brother and my friend, felt really good.

Also managed to acquire a Ghastly and a Caterpie both for the first time, the Ghastly from tracking (even if the tracking is beyond broken), the Caterpie from my first egg hatch. My second egg was unfortunately a Rattata but it gave me enough candy that I could evolve 3 of my Rattatas so I popped a lucky egg, evolved 3 Rattata, 4 Pidgey, a Pidgeotto, my Caterpie and a Drowzee and within minutes I'd gone from Level 5 to halfway through Level 8.

Also ran into a Venonat and a Vulpix for the first time but unfortunately the game froze as I caught both of them and when I restarted the app I had both showing up as "Seen But Not Caught" in my Pokédex. Sad times.

Actually found that there's a battery saver option in settings and turning my other apps off allowed me to play it today I never really got into Pokemon as a kid but am enjoying this. I am waiting for health checks and DBS to clear before starting a new job currently so have too much free time! This is a good excuse to get out the house for a wander.

Are these people over the top ? Hell yes, but that's why the media are reporting it and then other idiots follow suit. The other 99.9% of the same population are been normal about it.

What annoys me more than the bandwagon jumping is the people jumping on the bandwagon giving out about bandwagon jumping ? Who here is bandwagon Jumping ? Sure the few of us who started the game as soon as the APK became available couldn't be in that group as it was us that built the bandwagon to be jumped on. Then there's the others who waited for the game to appear on the app store (on Thursday?), Are they jumping on wagons because they waited for an official release ? The Pokemon fans can't be bandwagon jumpers as surely this game is built for them. Then theres people who enjoy good innovative games, are they jumping on the bandwagon because they downloaded the game ? So who is jumping on bandwagons playing this game ?

It seems the people who are giving out about it are jumping on the bandwagon for giving out about it.
"I don't like/play this game and my opinion about this game that I don't like/play must be heard"

Just the same as anything, isn't it. You get stories of people falling off cliffs while taking selfies, there was someone who drove into a river due to misunderstanding their SatNav. But 99.9% of people manage to do these things just fine. There will always be people sadly who lack common sense, sometimes resulting in tragedy.

Absolutely. Pokemon Go is popular so all sites and news outlets are reporting on any nonsense that's even a bit related to it. Idiots will always be idiots and get themselves into trouble and it's those idiots we hear about.

Because my news feeds are often littered with people banging on about people they've never met as if their lives are the most important thing happening on the planet right now. And you know what? I just let them have their fun for a bit without criticising them.

Gaming is already on top? It will make no difference? It just put Nintendo firmly back on the map and boosted their finances massively, which can only bode well for their NX plans. Surveys have already shown Pokemon Go is especially popular with groups not usually associated with either Pokemon or indeed videogames.

The fact you say "I don't like fads. It's all very sheepish" suggests you're against any such ideas without even bothering to assess them properly. I'm not sure if that's some small attempt at rebellion, maybe it's snobbery, or perhaps you just think it's "cool" to hate on something others enjoy. Only you know the answer to that.

I did the whole anti mainstream/fad thing when I was a teenager, it got very dull and lonely. I'm not saying I follow all fads blindly but I don't let the fact something is incredibly popular stop me getting into it any more.

That's the spirit. At least you can say you've tried whatever the fad is and have made up your own mind wether it's any good or not.

Exactly

Back to the game, I got a message from my sister last night to tell me my mum's new house is a gym My brother and sister are determined to have total dominance of it. I thought I was lucky being just down the road from a gym.

Managing to get on during the day, albeit when I'm at work! Not ideal, but when I get home and try to have a proper "go" round my Village I can't get on!
