I too got a Venomoth today. 512 CP which isn't *too* bad considering I'm only Level 14.

Also hatched 2 Ponyta in a row with 2 5km eggs that both hatched at the exact same time, one of the Ponyta was 647 CP and the other was 598 CP, this also netted me 35 Ponyta candy which makes me surprisingly close to obtaining a decently powered Rapidash.

Also managed to obtain both Rhyhorn and Geodude for the first time, which is amazing for me, as I never thought I'd encounter any ground or rock types around these parts, as I've been at it for weeks now and hadn't encountered one.

Also *finally* managed to get a hold of my first 10km egg, up to this point I got a never ending barrage of 5km eggs and a handful of 2km eggs, most of which never gave me anything good, the best things I've gotten out of eggs have been a Machop, a Pikachu and the aforementioned Ponytas, so here's hoping I get something of real note from this 10km egg, I will be extremely depressed if it's a Jynx, as I know they have the potential to hatch from a 10km egg, they're extremely common around here, they're very underpowered and they can't evolve so even their candy is worthless.

I'm closeish to where you are; I had x2 10k eggs the first one was a decent scyther, but the 2nd was a jynx ; i already had caught about 10 and its cp was crappy grrrrr
Am planning a different route tomorrow so should hopefully get some different pokemon

Honestly if I get a Jynx from a 10km egg it will take a lot of willpower to resist the urge to chuck my phone in the Thames I mean at least with something else common in that bracket like Eevee the candy is useful for evolution.

Personally I'm hoping for either Hitmonchan or Aerodactyl. Would also settle for Electabuzz, Lapras or Scyther, I know Scyther seems to be a bit common but I've never encountered one, never even had one on my radar before, so I'd be pretty stoked to get one, it's one of my fav gen 1 pokémon

Had a 2 hour walk tonight but didn't catch anything worthwhile. Just an endless barrage of Weedles, Pidgeys and Ratattas.

But I did have 40 evolutions to do so I used a lucky egg and got up to level 20 with 30k / 50k exp.

Found a Muk on the train today. Really losing interest now as I don't want to go to Gyms.

It's really disappointing when you hatch an egg and all you get is a weedle

Ran out of Pokeballs yesterday at work, did (three) laps around my local town afterwards, managed to get a good 70/80 or so Pokeballs back via the Pokestops, and a couple more this morning in addition to the odd Egg.

Still not got a Pikachu, though I did catch a second Squirtle yesterday (higher CP than my starter too). I'll also echo the guy above who said he can't be doing with Gyms; I'm the same, couldn't care less for them. I've had two attempts at them, and I keep getting wiped out (it would seem I'm not quick enough to evade any attacks, and my entire team is wiped out by the lone gym Pokémon, regardless of levels).

If it were possible to get poke coins without spending real money or going to gyms, I wouldn't bother either. It takes too long too raise the prestige of friendly gyms if you're Pokemon are the same level (never mind weaker!) and it's too repetitive to kill enemy gyms.

So close to hatching a 10km egg, but I imagine it will be yet another Eevee. Caught a Seaking yesterday, which meant I had enough candy to evolve a goldeen into a stronger Seaking.

Persian is the only other new Pokemon I've caught in the wild recently, most of my new Pokemon are coming from evolutions.

The problem I have with gyms is that they're too easy to take down and too hard to strengthen. Like I find it so easy to take down any gym, I get six Pokemon to do it. But then as soon as I claim it and walk away, someone else has taken it. And to train at a gym I only get one Pokémon.

And then anyone who was any bit late starting has no chance in the gyms.

They've said they're going to add more stuff to gyms and I hope it's soon as they feel a bit broken.

Hatched two 5k eggs this morning, a Bellsprout and a Ponyta, pretty happy with that as they're two new Pokemon to me. Hoping my good luck continues as I have another two 5k eggs incubating today.

I might be skipping over to my google account one as Pokemon Trainer keeps freezing me out constantly. Annoying as I spent ages hatching my egg and catching Pokemon on it .

Had a fairly decent day today, got a ton of Charmander and Eevee at Hampton Court Palace, so much so I was able to evolve to Charmeleon and Vaporeon, the former with 712 CP and the latter with 1249 CP, pretty intense stats

Also hatched a Bulbasaur from a 2km egg, meaning I now have all 4 starters, found out Bushy Park is a great hotspot for both Lickitung and Diglett, caught yet another, much more powerful Venomoth and finally got my hands on an Ekans.

Also I'm only 2km off hatching my first 10km egg so might go for another walk in a bit

An okay day; though not any new pokemon. I evolved oddish at quite high level so my gloom is strong and vileplume wil be over 1k; got a few more psyduck, goldeen and horsea so the latter 2 will be evolved with a couple more catches
A 650 jinx and 450 slowpoke was obtained that i thought was decent for Lev 15
My 5k eggs produced nothing new so I am still waiting for so much in this bracket; I would have liked any of ekans, koffing, onix, growlithe, vulpix, lickitung, cubone, diglett, doduo. I have never seen them anywhere I have been on the finder map apart from koffing
I had my first gym battles today; they were not fantastic, i didn't really like the style of them but it was a quick learning curve; especially that you need to swipe at least 3 times one way to ensure you move to dodge an attack and you need to tap the screen very quick to ensure your quick attacks are effective
hitmonlee and venemoth were disappointing whilst my scyther and hypno did well against a huge snorlax and taurus. But as soon as we "won" a gym another team had already come in and defeated us, so it didn't seem worth it as it was too competitive and other players and teams were always just waiting to pounce
i always thought one bar for a pokemons special move was the best but i think 3 or 4 is better as you have more chance using the move

I had an OK evening too. After waiting so long to get a Meowth, I got 3.
Got my Eevee evolved into a Jolteon (so only Vaporeon left).
Got my Psyduck evolved into a Golduck.
Also got a 330 CP Pikachu which I'm happy with.

Does anyone know whether encounters are actually based on anything? Is it area, or is it truly random? I'm encountering an awful lot of Ratatta, Pidgey and Weedle, and not much of anything else. I'll occasionally see others such as Eevee or Squirtle, but because the footprint feature still doesn't work, I can't hone in on them.

Squirtle is more likely to appear near water even things like fountains and public pools, not just lakes and creeks and stuff. Though that said i found a Magmar in a nursery/garden center so

I was walking through a town yesterday, nowhere near any water when I saw one on within the footprints. Never did encounter it though..

I started with a Squirtle, and have caught only one other since. I've yet to encounter a Charmander, Bulbasaur or Pikachu either.

Hatched a further two 5k eggs this morning and got 2 new Pokemon! A Lickitung and a Machop. Not particularly high CP, but I'm not too bothered about that stuff until I reach level 20 (currently level 11).

OK I am very confused with gyms. I'm level 8 and my highest Pokemon is rated 181. In the gyms all the Pokemon I can face are literally ten times more powerful, so my Pokemon just loses immediately after the first hit. I get no XP and seemingly no benefit from this.

What is the point? Why can you visit gyms at level 5 if you can't feasibly beat the Pokemon in them until level 20?!

Yeah ....

Anyone who started this game even a week or two late are going to feel left behind. Or even who have a massive amount of time to devote to it. I'm a level 20 and I can clear out a gym no bother but people like you won't find it so easy.

And the higher level you are, the more rare Pokemon you see and when I catch Pokemon they're already at 500-909CP whereas you're probably catching Pokemon about 100CP. Giving me a further advantage.

The only thing in your favour is that you get 6 Pokemon to fight with and you will find gyms with crappy Pokemon in them (I like to leave Magicarp in gyms just to troll them)

Gyms are a bit broken right now.

Don't bother with the gyms, they don't reward you nearly as much as it's worth the hassle, and as you yourself have pointed out, that portion of gameplay is where all semblance of balance flies out of the window.

It was fine a couple of days ago, where everyone was around Level 7 - Level 15, back then you could take a gym without too much hassle, but now almost every gym around has Level 20 trainers and are stuffed with all the massively overpowered Pokémon.

If a gym has either Snorlax, Lapras, Vaporeon, Dragonite, Gyarados or Alakazam in it, don't bother, you will lose unless your CP is significantly better than theirs.
