I'm not bothering with the gyms. I fought one battle and was absolutely thrashed by a single Pokemon.

In other news, I caught a Porygon in the wild today so am very pleased Also evolved my Gastley to a Haunter, caught a second Dratini, and caught a 350 CP Nidoran.

What is the point? Why can you visit gyms at level 5 if you can't feasibly beat the Pokemon in them until level 20?!
It's not always Gym Pokémon with a CP at 1000+ that you need to defeat. I've seen a 200CP Goldeen in a Gym before. Some players throw in lower-end Pokémon to help newer users out, other players throw in higher level Pokémon because they're selfish.

Apparently (in time) there are plans to extend what Gyms are capable of, so keep an eye out for that.

Up to level 13 but I have caught no new Pokemon in 2 days , managed to find one and caught it and my game crashed and then it wouldn't reload.

Level 12 at the moment. Hatched a Porygon yesterday from a 5km egg so very happy.

Left phone at home today though so the other two 5km eggs will have to wait

Don't bother with the gyms, they don't reward you nearly as much as it's worth the hassle, and as you yourself have pointed out, that portion of gameplay is where all semblance of balance flies out of the window.

It was fine a couple of days ago, where everyone was around Level 7 - Level 15, back then you could take a gym without too much hassle, but now almost every gym around has Level 20 trainers and are stuffed with all the massively overpowered Pokémon.

If a gym has either Snorlax, Lapras, Vaporeon, Dragonite, Gyarados or Alakazam in it, don't bother, you will lose unless your CP is significantly better than theirs.
The Vaporeon we played against yesterday was crazy good. And its CP was only 1500.
There was a 2500 Dragonite in another gym!
My egg hatched into a Doduo and I found a Cubone surprisingly

On the way to town I put Pokémon Go on while on the bus so that I can get some distance for my egg without actually walking. The GPS was kinda laggy, you'd stay in the same spot for ages, then jump to a new place a while later. Kept missing out on Pokéstops because of it.

While in town I encountered a Pokémon that I hadn't caught yet, and I couldn't catch it. The circle thing that appears was orange, and it kept escaping the ball. I might've been too low a level.

Later on I seen a Pidgeotto, which I haven't caught yet. I tried to catch it, but it was raining, and the game kinda froze. It just wouldn't do anything, so I had to restart it, then caught a Pidgey.

I got a Charmander from a 2km egg, though, so it wasn't all bad.

I heard it doesn't count the km if you go over a certain speed. I read you have to be under 10 miles per hour

Anyway Today I did a little hunting after using a pokefinder app.

Today I have caught:

Pidgey x#
Ratata x#
Porygon
Drowzee
Raticate
Evee
Staryu
Spearow
Pidgeotto
Shellder
Meowth
Magicarp
Jigglypuff

And annoyingly I missed out on a Seal. I arrived to the location too late.
And I got a 10k egg, 5k and 2k egg

Even if you can't beat the whole team at a rival gym, if you are fairly confident you can beat one or two - by configuring the six slots you have so the type match-ups are on your side - then escape battle once you come up against a mon you can't beat, you get nice XP and weaken the gym.

For example, a gym has a Vaporeon of around 600CP in the first slot. Fill your six slots with your best grass or electric mons and keep escaping immediately after the first battle. This helps with levelling up and gives you a reason to look to build teams with good movesets.

The Porygon I hatched knows Signal Beam, with fighters resisting Bug and Porygon being weak to fighting this mon is useless defensively, so I will reserve it for working on other gyms' prestige rather than leaving in one.

Yes, it has a speed limit, which means you can't do it in a car. But it works on busses because they don't tend to go that fast.

With gyms why does it just select 6 pokemon for you? And how do you make sure the 6 picked are the ones you want; do you just star the preferred 6 then set your pokedex in star order?

It usually picks your 6 best but if you want to change them then just tap the one you want to leave and then tap the one you want to bring in.

I'll have to cycle slower.

That actually works? I downloaded (I think) that App the other day. No Pokémon were shown at all. Just a bunch of people chatting...

As Yuffie has stated, you can change your team yourself if you need a type-performing team. Just tap the button bottom right and It should allow you to change your team.

Statistics have revealed that the playerbase of this game peaked on 14th of July and steadily and not un-significantly fell every day since then, funnily enough the "3 footstep 'glitch'" came into effect on the 15th of July - the day the playerbase saw it's first dip. Coincidence? I think not. Way to go Niantic, you've let bugs (which are rumoured to be of Niantic's own doing to reduce server strain) kill what could have been monumental hype and the return of Pokémon Fever.

Anyway back on to general gameplay discussion, today was fairly decent. I was out at London Film and Comic Con all day, so unfortunately I wasn't able to play *too* much - and despite all the city hype London seems even more filled to the brim with Rattata than my local area - but when I got back home I went out for a walk and hatched both a 5k egg and a 10k egg, the former gave me a Voltorb with 18 candy and the latter gave me a Dratini with 21 candy, all in all a pretty good haul, only need 1 more Dratini for a Dragonair Immediately after Dratini hatched a Seaking appeared in front of me too so that was doubly great as it meant a new Pokémon for the Pokédex.

Amazingly a Hitmonlee *and* an Omanyte also appeared on my radar for the first time ever but I couldn't track down either before they both despawned Better luck next time,,,

Omanyte was the 3rd Pokemon i ever found, right next to a creek. It was such a fluke and i've never seen another since.

It's getting so so difficult to get any more new Pokemon. I only have 61 different types, there's another 90 out there but I'm struggling to find any.

Got Level 21 tonight

Via hatching I'll soon evolve Abra into Kadabra. 'Citin!

My sister's hippy beardie eco housing area in south London is a gym. I've just taken it over (poor the Exeggutor guarding it, I have plenty of bug types).

Don't give up! I hit a bit of a rut round the same point but I got a few new ones from evolving what I had and from being lucky with a few eggs.

I'm on 79 caught & seen now, and have enough candy to make that 80. I'm level 21 too 😄

No there aren't.

In fact there isn't even the full 151 from Gen 1 available.

No Ditto, no Articuno, no Zapdos, no Moltres, no Mewtwo and no Mew.

Also no Tauros outside of America, no Kangaskhan outside Australia, no Mr Mime outside Europe and no Farfetch'd outside Asia unless you get extremely lucky with a 10k egg (they have extremely low hatch rates outside of their region too)

I've hatched a couple and caught a couple, bit of a way to go before I can evolve it into Omastar. Egg incubators from the shop are a godsend.
