Hi, the contract on my iPhone (5C) is just about to end and lots of people are saying that an android phone would be much better value for money, have better storage (and possibly have a better camera).

The trouble is, I've got really used to iPhone's and I love how idiot-proof they are to use. I'm worried I'll regret buying anything else. Has anyone else made the switch from say an iPhone to a Samsung?

I have to say that this last phone has been a complete nightmare for dropping calls and problems with my voicemail but my previous iPhones were perfect😄.

Thanks for any advice

I'm not surprised people saying an android would have a better camera, the 5C is kind of like a low to mid end phone, if you upgraded to a 6S or even a 6 you'd see a massive improvement in the camera/video quality.

I've had iPhones since the 3GS and I've tried a couple of androids(both samsungs) one was a galaxy s2 and the more recent one was a galaxy note 4, both times I came back to iPhones simply because everything just works, and there was a few apps I couldn't get on android that I had on my iPhone, also the thing kept making noises every 5mins even though I'd set notifications to off on some apps. I was told battery life would be much better than my iPhones too, I found it to be very similar to my iPhones!

So the grass certainly wasn't greener for me!

Needless to say I currently own a iPhone 6S and love it, does everything well.

You can get a 128gb version of the 6s - it's the one i have, and it's rumoured that the iPhone 7 will come in a 256gb model as well so the storage shouldn't really be a problem

But then cost is, of course, the main factor as they're not cheap.

I've gone the other way from Android to iPhones myself, and I've had iPhones for many years now. Android is a good system and I think once you get used to the alternative ways of doing things, you'll be fine but I do think if you're used to iPhones you certainly have much better options than a 5c.

I've only ever had one Android device (HTC Desire) and soon switched back to iPhone. I have to say the only real contender that's tempted me in more recent years is the Moto G. Got my friend one after his OH bought him a Samsung Galaxy S4 (a Verizon Wireless variant for some reason!) and it's dead easy to use.

Depending on what the next iPhone offers I may stick with my 6s Plus or go for the fourth generation G.

The 5C has been particularly bad. Great for everything else apart from actually functioning well as a phone!!!

I've been particularly looking at the iPhone SE if you have any thoughts on that particular phone? I like the look of it because I don't want a massive screen, I need something small enough to fit in my pocket.

The SE is a good choice actually as it's basically an iPhone 6s inside an iPhone 5 case.

Far more powerful than the 5c with a better camera as well.

Completely forgot about the SE! As Jason said above, that would probably be perfect for you as you don't want anything bigger than what you have but it's going to be a HUGE performance increase in terms of pretty much everything, turning on/off, loading apps, downloading and Internet will be faster(even on the same network), camera and video will be vastly improved too. You'd love it I think.

Can I just say aswell I've no idea what you mean about your 5C being great at everything apart from being a phone? All my iPhones have been great at being just a phone apart from everything else. Maybe your 5C is abit of a lemon/has a fault!?

I went from a 4S which I loved to Android. Originally a cheap ZTE and now a fairly cheap Honor 7. I don't like it to be honest and will go back to iPhone this year. Probably get the SE which looks perfect for me but waiting to see what the 7 brings before I commit.

I don't have any particular complaints with Android. It just seems that the 2 phones I have bought have come weighed down with junk apps and overlays. You can buy pure Android phones I think (Nexus / MotoG?). It also winds me up that it keeps bleeping and pinging at me. I too have tried to turn as many notifications off as possible.

I wouldn't condemn it but as a fairly light user, I just prefer iOS.

Thanks Jason and Lidtop- the SE is looking like the front runner at the mo.

You could well be right about my 5C Lidtop. This particular one drops calls, there have been numerous problems with the microphone during calls, voicemail's never worked, general sound quality during calls is VERY hit and miss. Very frustrating all round. Having researched this particular phone (and it's problems) online, it does seem that the 5C model did have a lot of issues. Just count yourself lucky that you got one that behaves!

Haha not just one, all of my iPhones from the 3GS,4,4S,5,5S,6 and now my 6S have had no calling issues or voicemail problems, the only iPhone I haven't had is the 5C. I just think your unlucky! If you get the new SE you won't have any of these issues at all.

Only problem I ever had with an iPhone is refusing to answer as the slider was 'stuck'. But I think that was cured at some point on my 4S by an update.

I had an iPhone 4S once with a faulty earpiece but other than that any general issues have been related to iOS (and usually squashed with a .XX update).

The iPhone SE is also on my radar if I don't go ahead with a Moto G or if iPhone 7 leaves a lot to be desired (and I've an awful feeling it will be) but am not sure how I'd feel about going back to a 4" screen when I've adjusted to the brick in my pocket haha.

I've just got the SE as I wanted a smaller phone in addition to my Sony Xperia Z5 (itself a very good phone, just a bit on the large side for my Donald Trump hands ). Very pleased with it - great signal, very, very good camera images and great to use generally. Good battery life too from what I can tell so far. One tip - download GBoard to use instead of the standard Apple keyboard - it makes texting so much easier. I'd def recommend the SE.

From what I've heard people say generally, it sounds as though the 5C was a bit of a let down all round. The SE is much, much better.

.
Can't understand why people bother with keyboards these days when voice dictation works so well. The only time I ever type a text or email on my phone is when I'm somewhere where I can't speak. Even with the occasional correction it is so much easier and quicker than typing.

Voice is fine if you're somewhere private and indeed it does work well in general, however at work / on the train / in a place with a lot of background noise / confidential message content etc, a keyboard is still very much a requirement.

At the end of the day it's okay for everyone else to say X phone will be better value for money and better etc etc but they don't have to use your phone every day.

You do and if you prefer iOS then stick with it. You can get a 64gb iPhone SE. If you yourself want to try android then fair enough but if you'd rather stick with iPhones then do so.

Ignore what everyone else says. Buy the phone you want. At the end of the day you have to use it.
