The LG G5 hasn't been the success they had hoped for, selling only half the amount of phones they had hoped for (2.2 million phones). It was a bit of a gamble for LG and one they should be commended for. However build quality issues and lacklustre LCD screen along with premium price tag certainly put me off buying one.

LG have restructured their mobile division and it looks like many have been in the firing line.

Meanwhile Samsung appear to be doing well with the S7 (although no specific figures have been announced yet).

I wonder if a price cut is on the cards? It might not be up there with the big boys but at- say- £300 this would be cracking value for money.

I've the LG G4 and very pleased with it I am indeed, so when news came of its replacement I was very excited, then disappointment replaced that excitment thanks to some key mistakes, 1: build quality, some worring reports about how it all fitted together. 2: the removal of the app draw meaning every app needed to be onscreen, cluttering up things. 3. By far the biggest mistake for me, the reduction in screen size, for me putting out of the pablet market and into the iPhone 6s/S7 zone, not alongside iPhone 6 plus/note 5 market.. 4: all this along with a high price.. If the cost comes down I might take a look at one as it looks nice.. But that screen size.... Maybe not

Now you see I think 5.5" is too big, so the slightly smaller size of the G5 appeals.

HTC ten would still be my first choice if money was no object but a cheaper G5 might appeal.

I can't afford either at the mo so it's all pie in the sky anyway....

I wonder if this is also why it's HTC's turn to be the next Nexus manufacturer again. IIRC they haven't done one since the Nexus One

That's just it though, with the size change they've moved it into a different market, one with some very big hitters in.
Don't know why they didn't keep the size as was and make a smaller G5c like they did with the G4/G4c just this time have the specs of the 2 very similar not a cheap lump of rubbish like they did with the G4c,
Think they also though the idea of those extra interchangeable gadgets would get things selling but in reality bit many people can be arsed with all that.

Flagship phones shouldn't have a screen size of less than 5.5 inches imo. It actually should be made law. LG have shown themselves to be idiotic with the G5.

That's why I imported the v10, they made a mistake never properly releasing it in the UK. Sadly no Three in touch support for VoLTE or 800zmhz despite me spending extra money on the 800Mhz import.

Yes I agree. This is clearly the biggest threat to civilisation as we know it.

Ffs, if you don't like the screen size don't buy the phone. Plenty of choice out there.

That's the problem with importing none UK released phones in the present mobile environment, you either risk some loss of band support or only ever getting the basic phone support from your network.

I liked my G3, but had a lot of issues with the battery and I have seen reviews for the G4 and G5 which suggest battery issues again, build quality issues etc. Decided to change brands.

G4 was / is a fantastic bit of kit with unrivaled features and battery life but looking at the G5 , I could not get my head around the dull screen in daylight with auto brightness turned off it looked poor to me next to a lower cost Samsung S5 neo .Maybe they will lauch a trur replacement for the G4 in the future ??

I wonder if its successor possibly called the V20 will be issued in the UK? Samsung never released the Note 5 in the UK either.

Theoretically the LG V10 should work on VoLTE on Three as Marshmallow supports carrier updates. Im not sure if your V10 has Marshmallow but I would be interested to know if it starts working if and when it gets the update.

I think the case of the G5 demonstrates how 'peer driven' mobile customers are.

I have been a smartphone geek for years, starting with the Nokia 9110i way back in 1999, right through Symbian, Pocket PC, iPhone, onto Android to which I've stuck to more or less since the Galaxy Note came out. I am familiar with many a flagship is the point I am trying to make.
Now, I've read and watched the Horror stories about the G5 and its awful build quality and finish, Despite this (and due an upgrade) I ordered a G5 out of curiousity, I was pretty sure I'd be having a look, then sending it back in disgust and ordering something else. But the reality is its a lovely phone! It looks and feels nice, all the edges line up nicely with no sharp points, no excessive light bleed, a tiny bit, but hell its an LCD! and you can only see it when you go out of your way to look for it.

I think the whole problem with the G5 is based on a few reviewers not knowing the difference between metal build and a metal finish and getting overly upset about it, In hindsight LG probably should have made less of a big deal about the metal build. This has put everyone on a downer about it and many reviewers refuse to get past this point.

I am not thrilled with the idea of "paint" after all, paint chips and scratches, but then its only a couple of years since Samsungs flagships, which I am going to take nothing away from, were pretty much all plastic, which looked great out of the box, but bloody awful after a bit of wear, they were still great devices nonetheless. All it means for my G5 is that it will live in a case,

I am a little amused to see supposed tech enthusiasts black balling a top specced device because it isn't bling enough for them []

I am thrilled, I have got a top notch phone with specs on parr with the GS7 for far less money. I really do feel for LG as they've done a great job.
