There's an hour launch programme next Wednesday at 12.30pm followed by the first England v Pakistan ODI. It's a day/nighter, so good primetime viewing on the first day.

If Sky Sports Mix isn't going to be FTA, then what was the point of launching a channel when they have Sky1?

If Sky can put Golf and F1 on Sky!, then why not other sports?

Because its showing sports content 24/7.

I don't understand why you complain, if you have a sky subscription you get free sport, and a decent selection so far.

So is the point of it to give access to some minor events to non - sports subscribers or to to entice non-sports subscribers to get sky sports ?

Sky 1 isn't a sports channel, it's a general entertainment channel that very occasionally shows the odd bit of live sport. Sky Sports Mix is entirely focussed on sport. They're two entirely different properties.

Whatever reason they're doing it for, let's not forget that whatever BT do, Sky will closely follow and vice-versa. So long as BT have BT Sport Showcase then it was only a matter of time for Sky to launch their own version. Sky had Soccer Saturday, BT now have BT Sport Score. And so it goes.

I don't think anybody can complain about getting some live sport bundled with their existing packages though. It may not always be the best, but it's better than nothing at all.

It also provides an extra linear HD sports channel which could also benefit subscribers to the sports pack. For example, it appears NFL Redzone will be shown on Sundays with the live NFL games on a premium sports channel. Redzone was previously on a SD red button stream. There are other times when Sky have more live events to show than available channels when Mix could be used for something.

Confirmed that its not going to be available on Now Tv.

"Sky Sports Mix will be available to all Sky TV customers (not including NOW TV), as well as on selected Virgin Media packages, as well as providing a significant reach for a selection of the live sport available on Sky Sports at no extra cost."

Thanks. Now TV's purpose for Sky is to maximise revenues for its content, by capturing part of the "pay lite" market. Given that it appeals to a greater extent, to a casual/non-commitment market, there is a greater chance, in my view, that offering Sky Sports Mix to non-sports customers on Now TV would have cannibalised Now TV "Sky Sports" revenues.

An event on Sky Sports Mix, for example, could be the single purpose why somebody had intended to purchase a Sky Sports Day Pass.

Lots of talk about 'the first month'

What about after that? It'll be full of the 'non live' and 'sporting entertainment' I reckon, basically Soccer AM and A League of Their Own repeats.

"Not including Now TV"

Shouldn't that be "Excludes Now TV" or "Not available on Now TV"

It really does seem as though the whole internet is now written by 15 year old work experiences from the 'everybody wins a prize' type of school.

not a big error as someone thought Sky Germany will be showing every Liverpool game live in a delayed process

It was Sky/Now TV that was saying SSMix be coming to Now TV, not me

What a silly comment!?!

How can you compare a BT's crud channel carrying a very occasional live sport event in amongst a daily rolling advert, to Sky's channel carrying a full schedule of live sport events!?!

What relevance has the mistake a few Liverpool fans' blogsites made got to do with your own claim(s)? How incredibly random

Are you really going to trawl through the internet highighting mistakes you find to make your own claims made on this forum seem justified?

A more relevant "big error" you could have used for comparison was your own claim that Premier League football would appear FTA on Irish terestrial TV as that claim was made on this forum.

Well I've quoted you saying it, so that's another false claim, but where did Sky say it?

The only "evidence" you've provided up to now turned out not to be evidence at all.

I won't grace you with a proper comment seeing as you're plain rude!

He is 100% right though - there is no comparison. There's no proper reply you could make beyond skilfully moving the conversation away and using his rudeness as the excuse.

Oh please.

If I make SSM sound like an earth-shatteringly essential channel that nobody has ever been able to live without, would that make you feel better? We know how you love a good Sky press release.

The overall point is that Sky have done akin to BT and launched a non-sub packaged sports channel that is branded in the same manner as their premium offering. Yes, BT use theirs primarily as a UEFA offering but it also carries occasional other things too. Sky have gone down the same route, albeit offering more content.

There is a comparison, no matter how big or small it may be. One thing that peeves me off about forums is how petty people will seize the opportunity to jump on things for the sake of it.

Next time I'll sing the praises of Sky plc just so we can be friends, yeah?

And I didn't grace the other poster with a reply because, yes, he is just plain rude!

Now TV came from Sky's original corporate press releases months ago that was amended yesterday

You misread Sky Germany/Liverpool FC's press release

So I will miss out on some live content on SSMix which is available on RTE2 also and other sports that do not appeal to me ever

Yet you linked to a Sky PR two days ago which made no mention of Now TV (and another person has since confirmed that PR never mentioned Now TV).

No, I didn't! A Liverpool supporter misread and posted bad information on his blog.

What has that to do with anything anyway and what has that to do with you posting guesswork as fact?

I personally neither read Sky De's or Liverpool FC's PR on the matter - if there was one from either.

I actually read a translated German newspaper report which said all competitive games would be available on delay.

Later on I linked to an article (which was the first to appear in Google) which was in English and was posted on a Liverpool fans' blogsite. They believed that some games would be shown live - I didn't read their article properly before posting.

Maybe you're suggesting that I thought the games were live on Sky De but that doesn't make sense if you then say that I misread it.

Obviously the facts of that are for all to read in the relevant thread and are pretty straightforward - no wonder you get so many things so wrong.

This, by the way, from someone who bombards the site with links to totally unrelated content!!!

Stop digging and attempting to pass the buck. You claimed something would happen and it didn't. You keep doing it. Stop misleading people

Lest we forget, the only reason for the existence of BT Sport Showcase is/was to fulfil BT's agreement (whether it was an agreement or a contractual obligation I admit I'm not sure), to show a limited number of Champions League and Europa League games FTA.

Absolutely. And the introduction of Sky Sports Mix could equally be as a precursor to any attempted Sky exclusive bid in the upcoming tender. I'm sure it would go down better having a bundled channel with the 'regular' channels, even though if they won rights I would highly imagine them to strike a FTA deal with ITV again.
