I think as a whole Sky Sports Mix is good for people who time to time watch sport but not important enough to subscribe to full Sky Sports. Also don't expect many subs to be gained from Sky Sports Mix watchers to upgrade. If anything they need to concentrate on keeping the subscribers they already have to stay as price increases aren't helping them.”

It doesn't restrict them at all, which is pretty much precisely why it is only FTA on Freeview.

If it was FTA on satellite that is where the problems with rights would kick in.

No channel on satellite is broadcast at 960 x 540.
You perhaps mean 720 x 576i

Once Sky acquired the Living TV group channels, they reduced the SD bitrates & res from 704 x 576i to 544 x 576i and the rates to below 1.5mb/s

SSM SD looks appalling, i wouldn't be surprised if it is 544 x 576i

Not had the chance to SSM HD as i don't have access to the HD channels on Sky.
On VM SSM HD did look crisp!

That looks more correct. Dunno where I got 960x540 from!

Is Sky Sports Mix sky's answer to purchasing some of the FTA sports in the future like FIFA World Cup? I know it's on a subscription platform at the moment but who's to say they might launch it on Freeview.

I know that Sky Sports will have exclusive rights to Formula 1 in a few years from now and they have said that the British Grand Prix will be free to air so I'm just wondering if they are thinking ahead.

No. Because they do not need a new channel for that. Pick has already shown simulcasts of live events on Sky Sports for free, and FTA highlights of the 2013/14 Ashes.

I cannot see them giving away the amount of live sport they are showing on SSMix for free, it would devalue the benefit they are adding to being a Sky subscriber, and I think it would be more valuable ti them overall on Pick anyway.

Also, I am not sure if Sky are allowed to launch any new Freeview channels. When the platform launched they were limited to just three channels (Sky News, Sky Sports News, and Sky Travel) for competition reasons. Outside of live events Challenge would rate better being on Freeview than filler on Sky Sports Mix.

Everyone have a look at the Sky Sports Mix schedule for the coming days, including next weekend and tell us what live sports you can see ?

Little bit of live sport bait on the line for the first few days to entice us fish onto the Sky subscription hook, and then zilch.

Live Netball, rugby league and F1... Over next 7 days. Also factor in footy international break.

Even the main channels go through a day of no live sport.

Plus Sunday, Monday, MLS, Hurling final, Golf, Ireland World Cup qualifier

Not a bad line up.

Netball ? Hurling is free in Ireland as is the World Cup qualifier.

I think we may offer them rights to a marbles tournament.....

Who would subscribe to Sky just for Sky Sports Mix? The channel was never even design, nor promoted, for that.

The majority of Sky subscribers are not in Ireland.

As for questioning Netball, that says more about you and your attitude. It is a professional sport now, they are showing a major international tournament, and it is a sport which Sky has been showing for years.

Look, ignore my advice, could not give a toss, but the live sport content will drop like a stone and the: subscribe to SKOIIII Sports now ads will be relentless. This is bait and hook, not FTA.

What a sad comment!?!

So you think netball is the equivalent of a marbles tournament!

For someone who does not give a toss you do seem to be posting a lot about it What advice is it you gave anyway? I thought it was just an opinion.

Time will tell how much content will be on Mix. We only have an idea of the first three weeks plus some of the tennis lined up for October.

Considering they are not charging extra for this I am not sure what there is too complain about? The previous Sky Sports free days/weekends were marketing tools but enjoyable all the same. If you don't like because of ads then don't watch it. Simples. You'll probably want to avoid Sky Sports News HQ too.

Personally I'm treating it as a nice little top up to the sport I already enjoy on the Virgin XL pack.

Damnit I demand Sky Sports Mix simulcast Super Sunday every Sunday or I'll think it's rubbish. Bloody Sky making a Sports channel a free bonus channel for all subscribers.

Watched "miracle in Istanbul' on ssmix under the illusion it was the full doc - no sir it was rather a ten min preview thing condensing the whole show down with 'see the whole show on demand on sky go' or something - which its not, not available to watch in full even if you have a full sub.
Seems a bit odd as I won't bother watching ssmix if its just trailers, just the odd live BPL game.
I think the full doc is on youtube actually.

Sky Sports Mix are also showing the F1 next weekend... well some of it. They're showing qualifying and an hour of the race build-up, but not the race itself. If you want to see the race, Channel 4 are live that weekend.

To be honest there is a lot of us Motorsport fans who don't give a toss about how bad the state of F1 coverage is on TV. It ain't worth watching anyway. The championship is totally dominated by Mercedes with RBR and Ferrari the only ones to come close but not anywhere close enough to challenge Mercedes. The rest like Williams and Force India are just fighting for scraps whilst the likes of Sauber, Manor and Haas are nowhere to be seen. It is known for very little overtaking. And the rules and regulations don't appear to do anything to improve the quality of the competition or bring the teams closer together. IIRC there is a daft rule for 2016 that says drivers cannot speak to the crew during a race. How is that meant to make the racing more exciting? Also the engine change penalty rule which is just baffling also does little to improve the racing.

The BTCC at Rockingham saw more better racing.

I think people assume there will be 'regular' slots when its clear there won't be. Will mean some strange schedules. If you don't like it there is always the full fat version or the choice to carry on as you were!!

They are showing the hurling final instead which is fair enough, given you can already see the F1 on a free channel that day.

Can't see why anyone would watch any of that on SSM anyway, when CH4 have got all the practise sessions, qualifying and the race in HD for free!

People may prefer the Sky host, commentators and analysis. Strange thought, I know...

If people were that bothered about Sky's coverage they'd already subscribe to the F1 channel anyway.

Nothing wrong with giving people the choice. I prefer the Sky comms by far but i won't be subscribing again anytime soon. If it's on Mix and C4 I will watch it on Mix, I'm sure I won't be the only one.
