The Final: Portugal vs France - (10/7/16) KO 8pm, BBC1/HD & ITV1/HD
Coverage of the game will also be broadcast on talkSPORT, BBC Radio 5 Live, the BBC Sport website and App and online at ITV Hub.
This is the 25th meeting between the sides. France have 18 wins to Portugal's 5 wins. The French have won the last 10 matches in-a-row against their opponents. Portugal's last win came back in 1975. This will be the 4th meeting between the nations in a major tournament. The French have won the previous 3, all in semi-finals (Euro '84, Euro 2000, World Cup 2006). Before Portugal, the only previous cases of 3rd-placed teams in the group stages reaching the final of a major tournament (World Cup and Euro) was Argentina in the 1990 World Cup and Italy in the same tournament 4 years later. Neither lifted the trophy. Portugal have played the most games in the history of the European Championship without ever winning the tournament (34, before this final). Should they beat France, that unwanted record will pass to England (31 matches). They are unbeaten in their 13 competitive fixtures under Fernando Santos (winning 9 and drawing 4). In major tournaments, Portugal have only lost 1 of their last 13 games, that was against Germany in the group stages of the 2014 World Cup. France are unbeaten in their last 18 games at World Cups or Euros on home soil, winning 16 and drawing 2. Their last defeat came at the inaugural European Championship in 1960. Victory here would see France join Germany and Spain as 3-time European champions. Antoine Griezmann has scored/assisted more goals than any other player at Euro 2016 (6 goals, 2 assists). He has the opportunity to become the third French player to finish as sole top scorer at a major tournament after Just Fontaine (World Cup 1958) and Michel Platini (1984). Didier Deschamps could become the second person to win the European Championships as a player and as a manager after Berti Vogts. Route To The Final Portugal D 1-1 vs Iceland D 0-0 vs Austria D 3-3 vs Hungary W 1-0 vs Croatia (AET) D 1-1 vs Poland (AET: won 5-3 on pens) W 2-0 vs Wales Top scorers: Ronaldo 3 goals; Nani 3 goals. France W 2-1 vs Romania W 2-0 vs Albania D 0-0 vs Switzerland W 2-1 vs Rep Ireland W 5-2 vs Iceland W 2-0 vs Germany Top scorers: Griezmann 6 goals; Giroud 3 goals; Payet 3 goals. |

I hope we see Portugal attacking more in this final, but i dont think we will as we are going to see France having most of the ball and Portugal hoping to hit them on the counter attack with the likes of Ronaldo, Nani and Renato Sanches

After this final, I would be happy never to watch another game played by Portugal in the style they have adopted. However, it obviously works for them and if England were in the same position as Portugal playing in the same way then I dare say i would feel less negative.
I think the final will be very close and suspect it will be decided by officials favouring France at crucial moments. Consequently, most of the post-match discussion will centre on those decisions, rather than the quality of the football on display, of which I expect there will be very little. IOW, this is not a match I am looking forward to - the final for me was France v Germany - so it has every chance of exceeding my very, very low expectations. |

not my ideal final, like most I'm going in with low expectation about it being a very good game to watch. I can see it going to extra-time and penalties but I hope France get the job done in normal time to save us from all that. I'm going to be optimistic and say 2-1 France.

got a feeling that portugal will do to france tonight what greece did to them in the 2004 final... just the way the tournament has gone for them i think they're gonna see it out and claim the trophy.
...what i wanna see though is a 4-0 french win! |

Hoping for a Portugal win for reasons of money. Also want a Ronaldo hat trick to see how Dixon spins it into a negative about him.

![]() I think a Portugal win will upset a fair few people so there's an added incentive for me to root for Portugal. But, honestly, I don't care either way. I have no affinity with Portugal or France. I don't have any feelings about either side. It'd be different if it was England or Germany, or Holland, or if it was a side with Liverpool players in it like Belgium. I just want a good game. And maybe a Portugal win, if I had to pick a side. |

Is this going to be one of those matches where the first half is full and second half where the game comes to life

I want Portugal to win partly because of France beating Germany, preventing me from winning money.

I think it will go to penalties I think no goals in 120 mins and Portugal to break hearts on penalties. I'm not even going to bother watching. Its going to be the worst final in a long time. |

So Euro 2016 draws to a close tonight.
Must be honest, I won't be too disappointed to see the back of it as I think it's been a dreadful tournament; too unwieldy with too many teams scoring too few goals as a result of showing too much caution and too little willingness to try and attack to win matches. The Portuguese certainly exemplify the latter descriptions, and in some ways I think it would be quite a fitting way to sum up the tournament if they grind out a victory after reducing the game to a mind-numbing stupor as they've done pretty much all the way through the tournament. We must hope beyond hope for an early French goal as that'll surely be the only way we'll have a chance of seeing even a remotely open and free-flowing game. |
