The worst Portugal side was the one in the last World Cup

He picked up a ludicrous Man of the Match award, if I remember rightly.

It's a bit like what happens sometimes at the Oscars...Portugal have deserved one for their body of work but they won it when way below their best.

Deschamps' infatuation with Gignac and Coman is absolutely puzzling.

Can't believe that Portugal have won. At least it was without greasy gigolo Rolando smirking and sneering on the pitch during most of the game.

Not much sympathy for France they had it all, home advantage massive crowd support but they looked out of form, ideas and much interest until Portugal shot in the extra time winner.

Gignac will have bad dreams about his off the post miss late in the 90 minutes which is what he deserves.

I think they need to rework the group stages though, they have almost become pointless under this format. For a side to finish 3rd in their group, not win a single game in that group and then go on to win doesn't feel right.

They gave him player of the tournament, even though he wasn't even the best Argentina player there.

I think France were found out a little tonight. Faced two 4th seeds at the L16 and L8 stage and were outplayed for long periods by Germany in the semi.

That was the player of the tournament trophy, and yes it was a ludicrous decision.

Well I thought they probably deserved it over 120 minutes...just. Fair do's to them!

And it was a decent goal to win it. And yay no penalties. So congrats to Portugal from a not too bitter Welshie!

The criticism should be directed at the teams that couldn't beat Portugal. If France can't beat a team that finishes 3rd in the group, then it's their fault, not the format of the tournament.

Why is Mowbray comparing the Portuguese players to jellyfish?

Is the Portugal manager a bit miffed with Ronaldo?

That was a disgrace, now if Ronaldo gets voted player of the tournament would be equally disgraceful

Portugal vs Austria a couple of weeks back, the commentator said "we're obviously not watching the European champions here", and I remember nodding my head in agreement. Football, eh?

Eh ? They both still score goals for fun. Ronaldo scored over 50 goals and Messi scored over 40 goals last season. They would both still get in every single football team in the world easily.

Hungary led Portugal three times and would've knocked them out if they'd held onto any of those leads.
