A deserved win on the night for Portugal.
France looked overawed by the occasion. As soon as Portugal had their first chance they took their foot off the gas and played it cautiously; if they had kept up the tempo they had in the first five minutes though I think Portugal would have buckled. Say what you want about Ronaldo but the man loves this sport with an absolute passion. If any English player cared half as much about playing for their country they might actually get somewhere. |

Being "sickened" sounds a little bit like melodramatic hyperbole to me.

The most organised team won it...Yes they are boring to watch, but they work as a team, get players behind the ball, keep possession well & score crucial goals at crucial times..so well done and well deserved Portugal.

A lot of people are overlooking the fact France had to play Germany on Thursday night. And while it only lasted 90 minutes, it was a very tough game.
I said last week that the extra day rest Portugal would get could play a significant role in determining the winner of the final. I think it did tonight. France just couldn't maintain a high tempo and looked like they were running on reserves after 20 minutes tonight. |

That's hilarious Congratulations to Portugal. Excellent team effort and they coped well without Ronaldo. I have to say I'm delighted for Ronaldo too as he cares so much about winning for his country and his touchline antics in extra time were brilliant. Not a great final but it feels like a classic just for the way the Ronaldo story unfolded. |

Exactly, it's football
"I burned my salad the other day, sickening." "I got wet in the rain the other day and I must say I was sickened by the weather forecast" What words then describe something really bad, you wonder. |

Do you think Ronaldo going off injured affected them and made them think that we are easily going to beat them as their star player is not playing
I think they'd planned to contain him then when he went off injured they seemed wholly betwixt and between. |

Bit naff a team that got through on 3 draws won the whole thing but if that's the way it's set up gonna have to live with it. Hope they tweak it next time.
But why am I complaining. I got Portugal in the office sweepstake

Somebody has to play the 1st semi final. They are not going to have them on the same night. Just the way the cookie crumbles. France had ample time to 'recover'. They just weren't on the money tonight for some reason.

Wouldn't have made a difference, Portugal have been tough to beat, they have been organised throughout the whole tournament and deserve credit, rather than making excuses for France.

Ian Wright clearly hasn't heard of the UEFA Nations League.
I don't buy at all the argument being put forward by the panel that an expanded tournament justifies itself solely because it gives the smaller nations a taste of tournament football. Their incentive should be to improve to the point that they can qualify for tournaments in their existing sizes, not to get there by being given the equivalent of a consolation prize. I hope they realise when they get to the upcoming World Cup qualifiers that there are only half the berths of Euro 2016 open to them. This nations league is an absolute joke |

If only wins in 90 minutes count, they wouldn't have invented extra time.

I'd bump it up to 32 teams to make the group stage and knockout advancement a bit less scattergun.

Defending well and avoiding defeat is an art if not something for those who require entertainment. If you want the latter go to a theatre, or a cinema. |

You cant have 16 automatic qualifiers for a tournament four years in the future. Being at the finals should still be earned even if the qualifying format for 32 sides is practically an open goal for some and a penalty kick for others.

Not all teams who win a tournament sweep majestically from one game to the next.

Hungary did lead them three times but were let down by their lack of tournament experience.

I'm sure it's purely coincidental that a lot of the complaining about Portugal and the way they won the tournament is coming from certain posters who said they had absolutely no chance of beating France.
