Cristiano Ronaldo overtakes Messi
For me , after last night, Ronaldo is now the greatest living player on Earth, one of the greatest of all time and will be remembered as a hero in Portugal the way DIego Maradona was/is for Argentina. Ronaldo has now had success in every team he has played for, in every league he has played in and scored some vital goals in the Euros so noone can say he did not play his part. You could see how much it mean tto him after he got injured he even tried to continue that shows the great spirit of the man and even at age 31 even though he had frustrations and let downs in previous tournaments he refused to sulk and carried on, in the end he has now rightly got his reward and I am extremely happy for him, a stark contrast to Lionel "one club" Messi who announced his retirement from international football. No matter what anyone says the argument that Ronaldo is greater than Messi is all but over, Ronaldo is the true great and will be go down in history as one of the true, true, greats of the game, much, much more than Messi will. Ronaldo is the best player on the planet, not Messi.

I hope he checked his side view mirrors and kept to the designated speed limit.

How can it be nonsense lol the fact is Messi has only ever played for BARCA lol only ever had successs with Barca and only ever played in 1 league.
So your point is what exactly? Quote:
He won an international trophy last night with an average Portugal team and cemented his place in football history!! Thats what he did last night!!
Fernando Torrres has won more international trophies than Ronaldo or Messi will ever win. Doesn't mean a damn thing.

The lengths people go to try to discredit Ron's achievements are quite incredible.
But even the most die hard Ronaldo-haters must have felt for him when he got that injury last night. I mean anyone who loves the game must have felt for him. I think the stadium and France were so shell-shocked at that injury that they stopped playing almost in solidarity with Portugal and then never recovered. Anyway, love him or hate him, Ronaldo is the epitome of a professional footballer. If one was to create a model footballer, one would mould him in Ronaldo's image. I am glad that his hard work on himself paid all the dividends he had dreamed of. He deserves it. |

Messi has also made more major finals with Argentina than Ronaldo has with Portugal. |

As did Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Paolo Maldini, Franchesco Totti etc etc.

no. because their careers are not over and messi is younger. he showed up for about 2 games during the euros which was a very poor euros. a few games doesn't automatically make him a greater all time player. load of BS lol

And yet he's still won more domestic titles and more European titles than Ronaldo has. I'm failing to see how it being with one club makes it any less of an achievement than Ronaldo winning titles with two clubs.

As good as the players you mention above were, only Maldini and maybe Totti can make a claim to be as big as say someone like Zidane, who will really be ranked as one the top players of all time. Maldini won a world cup as did Totti maybe thats why you cannot really mention scholes in the same breath as someone like Paulo Maldini. You mention Torres but he has never been in the running to be classed as one of the greatest players of all time, he simply does not have the ability or the credentials, Ronaldo and Messi both have the ability, but now, ONLY Ronaldo has the CV to claim to be the greatest player on the planet. After he has finally added an international winners medal to his cabinet.
or any international cup. He played in 2 finals and lost both
