England the biggest nation now by far not to ever win the Euro's
So this was the 15th European championship, and we've already had 10 different winners. Much better ratio than the World Cup, which we've had 20 of and only 8 different winners. It appears the Euro's are a great opportunity for countries like Holland, Denmark, Greece, then Czechoslovakia, Portugal, none of which ever won a World Cup and may never in our lifetime.
Here's a map of all the countries who have now won the Euro's https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...ip_winners.png Of course there's a big admission there, England can proudly boast they are only one of 8 nations to have won the biggest prize of them all, but theres a fairly big hole amongst the Euro winners without England, who surely are by far biggest footballing nation to win the tournament. Hopefully for Englands point of view they win this first before another WC. It must give England fans a huge cause of optimism if nations like Greece, Portugal, Czechoslovakia, Holland, Denmark can all win it, than England don't necessarily need a 'great' team, just a well organised unit with good teamwork and in future might finally break their duck in this competition. |
