I have a JBL SB400 Cinema Soundbar with wireless subwoofer. The subwoofer has an intermittent fault, which causes occasional pops in the audio, as discussed in this thread: http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=2147457

The thing is despite the sub woofer issue, I really like the soundbar but just using the soundbar on it's own means I miss out on the low rumble of a subwoofer for action movies and the like so it can sound a bit flat on it's own.

I recently decided to replace the unit with a JVC soundbar and wireless sub system (JVC TH-WL711B). This in itself isn't a bad system at all, with a very nice powerful sub, though the soundbar itself just doesn't have quite the range or depth of the JBL SB400, which I guess is to be expected as it's rrp was less than half the JBL. This got me thinking, is there anyway I could combine the best aspects of both systems? Is there anyway the JVC wireless sub would pair to the JBL SB400 if I pressed the pair buttons on each? Or are the wireless connections used on these non standard/proprietary to a specific brand?

Alternatively, are there any other wireless subs out there that are known as compatible with the SB400? I often look on eBay but presumably due to their weight all the direct replacement subs are listed as pick up only and are getting more infrequent in general...

Is there anywhere else that might sell them?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

I think you'll find that it's very unlikely you can pair any other make or model of wireless sub with the JBL soundbar other than another one of its original subs. If you've ever paired two dissimilar devices (say a phone to a car stereo) then you'll know there's usually a bit of a rigmarole first time round with passwords. It's only a guess on my part but I imagine there's no such process with the JBL soundbar and its sub; you simply press the pairing button(s). That to me suggests that the device pairing is hardcoded in to the wireless cards of the soundbar and sub.

If you have a Bluetooth enabled smartphone does it 'see' either the sub or the soundbar wireless signal at all? I bet it doesn't.

A bit of Googling threw up a few posts about LG and the problems folk are having with failing wireless cards. Replacing the same cards like-for-like has been the only solution I could see.
