It clearly is an issue for you.

What a let down from the previous episode. Liverpool was pretty bad.

It's not an issue for me either. But as people can post about contestants wearing leather vests or being beady or Max Headroomy, or Bond Villainy, it's a bit of an "elephant in the room" to not mention she was unusual looking.
Regardless of what she looked like, her knowledge was impressive (which is what counts on UC).

I totally agree, she was a strong performer as far as scoring points was concerned.

Well, she may or may not be trans, it's not an issue for me nor a lot of people. If she is, more power to her for having the strength of character to be on telly and the twittering abuse it will undoubtedly bring.
I will happily mock a very beardy man though, or a man who looks like a bond villain yet doesn't know how big Jupiter is.
Just picking on this quote to introduce the subject really, as I didn't see the episode but have read about the contestant in question.

A few years ago, there was a girl on Only Connect and Mastermind (called Emma, I believe, though can't remember her surname, which is a bit odd as I think her team on OC were named after her famly). Anyway, I'm pretty sure she would have failed the Crocodile Dundee test too, but I don't remember there being a great deal of fuss about it at the time (in the outside world, rather than online)

Mind you, that was in the days before just reading out or printing a bunch of tweets started to count as 'the news'.

Well, it was only a couple of years ago, and she copped a load of hurtful abuse.

If it's wrong to be homophobic, or racist, then why do some people think having a good old laugh at someone who is transgender is ok.

As someone said, the guy with the daft beard can always shave it off, but what you are is what you are- as in I don't suppose man suddenly decides 'I think I'd like to be a woman to shock everyone I know' It must be far more complex than that (because the easy way to avoid abuse would be to remain a man) So- not only do they have the unhappiness of trying to cope with being 'different' they seem to be the one set of people left in society were some people think it's perfectly ok to have a darn good laugh at their expense.

I seem to remember that she drew her attention to her appearance with the way that she dressed though it might have been difficult to avoid.

I've found a bit of an interview with her - https://nhsreality.wordpress.com/201...kill-yourself/ - and it seems that whilst there were some comments online, it wasn't a huge fuss.

I don't want to derail the thread, but my point was really that we seem to be going backwards in a lot of these things (or, at least, giving more people a platform to more people).

Peterhouse almost choked the lead away

I love the quietly cute captain of Queens' so they need to come back for the playoff

Mr Lin needs to get himself together for the next round

Michael is single-handedly bringing down Manchester here. He looks like one of Lovecraft's fish-people inhabitants of Innsmouth.

Good lord, it's the battle of the Jesus's tonight, although I'm torn between Jesus and Rasputin

I think he is Jesus actually, as his surname is an anagram of " is no Satan"

They'll murder Michael after the show. Blood will definitely flow.

Mr Michael was so scary with his death stare. I hope he wouldn't murder anyone after the show

His teammates were basically ignoring him after he gave so many points away for wrong answers and interruptions. Surprised the captain didn't SLAP him.

That ERRRRRRRRRR when Michael couldn't figure out the countries was so embarrassing.

I knew I'd seen him before though he doesn't look old enough to have been in Star Trek..

First time I have posted on here. I thought Oh good..a thread on UC.
I would've thought posters would be arguing over answers or boasting about how many you got right.
But no...the only topics seem to be the colour of Paxo's hair, who's trans, or looks like Rasputin.
Don't you enjoy the contest?

I got all the literature ones right last night and the paintings. I would be full of admiration for anyone who knew those theories in equation form...

No, we're all threatened by their superior intellect. Except when they're thick as two short planks and look like monsters.

Would "boasting about how many you got right" make for a fascinating thread then?

I got all the literature ones right last night and the paintings.
Ah, I see that in addition to having a pop at everyone else you had a little boast too....
