That was "Come Dancing" not "Strictly Come Dancing", it was taken off because viewing figures had away whereas Strictly Come Dancing is one of the most popular programmes on British television.
I went to a convent school in south London in the sixties and in the sixth form we had ballroom dancing lessons from Frank and Peggy Spencer of Come Dancing - they had a dance school in Penge....

They could of course have tried reviving the original format in the earlier Saturday evening slot - it was usually on quite late.
They tried it primetime in the 90s. 1991 series was Wednesday's at 7.30pm July to September, for example.

It got later and later because it was losing viewers, it became a bit of joke.

As long as they weren't involved in the Penge Bungalow Murders ...

Ooooooh, hard luck for Kent at the end there! If Paul hadn't buzzed with an incorrect answer, they'd have won straight out.
I might have understood but to me Paxo said that if a contestant buzzes in with a wrong answer then the other team wins without having to attempt the question?

He did say that but I took 'buzz in' to mean interrupt, as opposed to just giving an incorrect answer after the question finishes (which is what happened).

No, if he had interrupted i.e. buzzed before Paxman had finished the question then that would be an end to it. However, as Ross buzzed after the question has finished, there was no penalty so the other team had to answer.

What an exciting SF - never thought it would be this close given how good Kent were in round 1

Almost thought Kent ran away after Leeds choked 2 questions away with obvious giveaway answers but blimey they never gave up

Poor Ross

I was initially confused by that post by Lenitive but they are referring I think to a slightly earlier interruption by Ross, but quite near the end, which was penalised by five points and thus resulted in the deadlock tie at the gong.

I like the picture she posted on Twitter when congratulating the other team.

She's not a historian (well, not in the traditional sense) so there's no particular reason why she should know them.

Well she's done plenty of history shows for somebody who is 'not a historian'. And a lot of her interests lie either in the first millennium or just after, so I would expect her to have done a lot better with those 'which century' questions. I got two of them, and was only one century out on the other, so I'd certainly expect somebody with her professional interests to get at least some of them!!

Mind you, I remember being very disappointed in Neil Oliver's performance a few seasons ago. I remember getting one thing right that he didn't, and he was the person I had learnt that one thing from, so I know he must have known it at some point!!

Perhaps these TV people just make a show about something, and then promptly erase their minds and move onto the next topic they're making a show about..

I think it is more a matter of finding four volunteers, most alumni have little contact with their former university
Really? I must get begging e-mails, letters and magazines at least six times a year. We even get the occasional enquiry as to whether we would like to be to be the Alumni Rep on Senate - though sadly we don't get to vote on the decision.

Harsh but fair.

I'm not sure whether the most egregious example coming as it did when they were losing made it less annoying as not being a time wasting tactic or more irritating due to being utterly daft.

Did Fiona even try to give an answer during discussions? It seems like she was a bit alone in the team as none of the questions were her forte. And she looked a bit unwilling to be there.

Sorry Adele but your UZBEKISTAN had me in giggles.

She seems to specialise more in Medieval history and the History of Art aspect of that.

and then the other woman buzzed in and said 'France'............

It was quite clearly a group of islands in the Pacific west of Australia and New Zealand so I wonder if the teams were seeing a different picture on their monitors ?

We had an entire team the other day whose only answer to naming a star, any star (other than the sun) was to come up with "Pluto".
