First time I have posted on here. I thought Oh good..a thread on UC.
I would've thought posters would be arguing over answers or boasting about how many you got right. But no...the only topics seem to be the colour of Paxo's hair, who's trans, or looks like Rasputin. Don't you enjoy the contest? I got all the literature ones right last night and the paintings. I would be full of admiration for anyone who knew those theories in equation form...

I felt sorry for Michael, he seemed very nervous, he also struck me as maybe having some sort of autism.

No, we're all threatened by their superior intellect. Except when they're thick as two short planks and look like monsters.
Would "boasting about how many you got right" make for a fascinating thread then? Ah, I see that in addition to having a pop at everyone else you had a little boast too.... I just like to see what others could get that I couldn't... I'm very easily impressed. |

Maris Piper: your user name seems familiar - were you a member of the late lamented BBC Points of View forum? And did you move to the substitute PoV forum when that one closed, and which appears to be moderated by someone on leave from the Gestapo?

Yes. I was summarily dismissed for wanting to discuss Question Time! You could talk about TV programmes but not that one...it was a 'be nice or leave' forum.
DS seems to operate on an entirely different basis! |

Of course I did...but I like it for the competition and trying to answer questions first, and puzzling over the gender of competitors second...but I'd join in that on the thread too.
I just like to see what others could get that I couldn't... I'm very easily impressed. Randomly answering "Battle of Bannockburn" has never worked for me though. |

DS seems to operate on an entirely different basis! We are better off here - if anyone is in any doubt, DS is a really friendly site!

I;ve never seen anyone so nervous than Michael on UC, he could barely speak. What surprised me was that they never got any of the music questions ( Cure,Clash, George Michael) . Fair enough Bo Diddly might have been tough for a team of early 20 year olds! |

To JeffG1: Same scenario...in fact it was Miranda who warned me I was skating on thin ice..next thing I knew, the mod dropped me right in!
UC...yes, how often do competitors not recognise the Rolling Stones but they know Rigoletto straight off! And your Battle of Bannockburn ...what was that answer that a team (years ago) gave to every question? |

A B.A. in "Viking Studies". Sounds like something The Pythons would resoundingly approve of.

.I do remember one recent student receiving an extremely withering scowl from Paxo when he threw in "Toxteth O'Grady" as an answer. In fact, it wasn't that long ago that I suddenly "got" the joke why Toxteth was the answer to two consecutive questions, world record holder for most marshmallows up one nostril and worlds stickiest bogey. |

Both teams seemed to be finding it hard work last night I thought and Emmanuel's Captain put me off a bit by trying to enthuse his team all the time. I thought Nottingham would probably win at the start but they seemed to falter half way through just as Emmanuel got going. |

What a comeback by Emmanuel. Nottingham totally flopped after missing that Judge question
The only question I could answer and get 25 points was the geography question lol Oh - surprised they could manage to sneak in a set of bonus questions on GOT

What did the Vikings ever do for us?
I was so hoping Emmanuel's captain would announce his full name as Jonathan Livingstone Seagull. |

Guttenplan... Amazing - that was 2010 when he disarmed Paxo! He never even seemed to be trying either 😁

I have to admit, that I didn't quite grasp the very first question "What type of quark .... " and having heard the full question answered, genuinely answered, "Vanilla."
Oh dear. |

Both seemed very slow to get started last night, but then Balliol really got the bit between their teeth and Imperial just seemed to implode and wanted out of there.

Fantastic norkage on one of the competitors, it'd be sexist to say which one. (maybe I should put this on the best boobs thread?)
