ED: Thoroughly enjoying it at the moment
With all of the unnecessary negative posts on the show lately, I hope to have something more positive
I am liking all of the stories, whether it is Holly's drug addiction, Ashley's dementia, David's cancer or Belle and Dr Bailey. I really felt for Holly tonight, and am hoping she gets the help she needs. Also, there are not many characters in soaps who get away with crime, so I hope Rakesh does get away with arson. Soaps are supposed to reflect real life, and there are criminals who successfully evade the law. There is no character I particularly dislike, because I feel Emmerdale has one of the strongest casts they are. My favourite type of characters are the darker mysterious villainous ones e.g. Robert, Jai, Emma, Holly etc. They are the ones that make me watch. |

Oh same here! I can't think of many of Emmerdale's storylines in the past year that haven't been great watching, I've been glued to almost every episode for a long time now! Even the "boring" bits, or storylines that aren't as personally appealing to me, still aren't boring enough to lose my attention.

I think Holly's drug addiction has been really well done. I have totally changed my opinion on Holly. I'm totally buying this storyline and the scenes between Holly and Moira are very powerful.

I am loving the scenes with Holly and Moira. People are quick to slate the actress playing Holly, but I think she has improved so much recently.
Also people keep saying they are repeating the drugs story, but that is true to life. Many drug addicts do relapse and go through this over and over, and this story is reflecting that. I am also loving (if that's the right word) the Ashley stuff. Alzheimer's/dementia is such an awful thing, and so many people are affected by it. My friend's mum has alzheimers are it really affects me so much seeing her slowly getting worse, and seeing how it effects her family and friends. It's nice to see a soap tackling such a hard hitting storyline, and so far doing it well. Yes it may be sped up for tv, but its still true to life, with Ashley able to remember things 10 years ago but not 10 minutes ago, getting loved one's names mixed up etc. |

I'm loving it. Watched about 6 episodes today catch up.
Gotta say Moria and Holly was FANTASTIC. And Holly is actually really good! And actually kind of felt sorry for her! Definitely her best ever! David and Tracy is really funny, but quite nice too. It's been great! |

Moira and Holly's scenes over the last couple of episodes have been outstanding. It is a repeat of the first time around but that's reality and it's been acted out so well.

I agree, It's on good form. As others have said the Holly drug addiction storyline is very powerful and believable, the Ashley Dementia storyline took an interesting turn with Laurel struggling to cope and turning to alcohol, and I must admit Belle & Bailey (which I didn't like at first) has grown on me, and I'm looking forward to

The scenes with Moira and her daughter, the drug addict, were excellent last night; top praise to both actresses. I assume the rubbish, with Diane locking David and the girl with the permanently open mouth in a room until they agreed to have sex was put in to make the Barton scenes look even more amazing.

Totally agree, the show is doing great at the moment - nothing too OTT but all going at a nice pace.
What I really like about ED is that things like addiction are kept running and not ditched. ED keep coming back to show that the characters are always battling through. Jay for example, it's excellent that he's still struggling with his coke addiction and it hasn't been forgotten. Other soaps would have dropped this after a while. I also like how this is intertwining with Holly's story - which is also great. I hated the idea Holly was being brought back, but I guess it's worked out pretty well. The actress has improved very much and her scenes with Moira have been IMO outstanding. The David stuff whilst a hard subject, is being done in a way which I like - lighthearted because David is just that. The scenes with Tracey I suppose are meant to come across as awkward and I guess they do have some chemistry. I've warmed more to Tracey too. The Ashley storyline, another well done slow burner, I like how we're seeing all different aspects to this illness. It's actually a bit hard to watch sometimes, which means the writers and actors are doing their jobs well. Also LOVE that we see Laurel back on the booze - very realistic under the circumstances that she would go back there. The Belle/Bailey storyline is OK, I am enjoying it more now than when it started, so it's a guilty pleasure of mine now. ![]() The Rakesh stuff has been good, enjoy seeing how the character will cope with all his money worries. Also love the Lawrence/Bernice and Ronnie stuff, interesting! So all in all, ED is in a good place right now. Steady. Looking forward to the autumn stuff. |

I only became a regular viewer in May, and have not missed a single episode since then. I think he quality is probably the best of all the soaps right now. There hasn't been an episode that has bored me yet, whereas that tends to be frequent with Coronation Street.
