Here's a novel idea. He likes some of the women, finds some attractive, finds some a laugh, but is not remotely attracted to any of them. I don't think that Evelyn is really into him, she's bored and wants to look more interesting. Alex has far too much dignity and self respect to hook up with someone just for airtime. Perhaps he does feel closer to Jackson, Andy and Jason because they are people he can have a degree of intelligent conversation and friendship with. If hanging out with lads makes you gay, then nearly every British bloke must be gay.
