Amazon on BT Youview
Hi
I have just set up my new Youview+ box and notice there is Netflix app on there but not Amazon Prime. Is it possible for me to download the Amazon app myself onto the Youview+ box? |

As far as I can work out Amazon Prime is not available on any YouView box.

If you have a spare HDMI port you could get an Amazon Firestick which will give you Amazon Prime plus loads more.

I don't know how you add apps to the BT Youview box, but there is an Amazon Prime app which you have to get from the AMAZON App store , and not your regular app stores. This enables you to down load prime programmes to watch later, and of course there is the regular Amazon Instant video app.

You are in the hands of BT or YouView as regards what apps you can access. |

You cannot add apps yourself to YouView, they add them themselves, and it's been rather a long time since they did. Think the last one was the help app, which was a few months ago now.
Still surprised YouTube hasn't been added, that, BBC iPlayer and Netflix seem to be the three prominent services on smart TVs and devices. Amazon would also be a decent addition. If you have enough HDMI ports (or a splitter) in your TV, it's not that much of a big deal for YouView to be without certain apps, as there is a plethora of other decent-priced streaming devices that can be used alongside your YV box. Admittedly it is handy to have as many as possible on the one box though, and I always use Netflix, iPlayer, ITV Hub and All4 on my BT box where possible. Everything else I access via a Sony smart Blu Ray or Amazon Firestick. My new UHD TV does have certain apps, but I've only successfully tested YouTube on it so far. Netflix on the BT YV box is a godsend really, as it's never worked on my Sony Blu Ray, doesn't load up on my new telly, and I've not (yet) had any call to install it on my Firestick. I upgraded my Netflix account to UHD the other week and right now the BT box is the only device I can watch 4K content from the service on. |
