There's always been controversy over what represents good popular music.
It was reported decades ago that during a conversation between Frank Sinatra and his then young wife Mia Farrow, that he was telling her how he found music popular with young people poor, as were the lyrics. She was quiet for a moment, then started singing. "Dooby dooby doo, dee dooby, dooby dooby doo, dee dooby." |

sorry too painful again some middle aged guy telling young people they are wrong or their music sucks not interested, its their generation leave them to it.
I remember my future father-in-law commenting on my girlfriend's sister's collection of Elvis records. "He won't last you know." How right he was! |

His voice reminded me of William Hague so I had to stop listening.

The guy was being polemical, offering a relatively extreme perspective but I think there is a lot of truth in there regardless. We might want to think about what we can do to change things. |

I don't the guy is middle-aged. He's a lot younger than me and he was summarizing a lot of the ideas around why pop music has become so bland and predictable. The idea that pop music is essentially created by a small number of producers effectively recycling their own materials makes a lot of sense.

What a waste of 12 minutes, I almost feel sorry for him.
He could have spent that 12 minutes listening to his favourite music. |

pleased someone actually listened to the content of what was being said, which is what the threads about and not about paul jospeh watson who is 26.
he rails against the snowflake generation too - of which he is one! I once listened to Robert John Godfrey of The Enid, who was one of the founders of Barclay James Harvest in the 1960s, talking about this some 10 years ago. He said that up until the 1980s the music industry bosses were former musicians, the big band leaders of the 1930s and '40s, and so understood the "long game" where you develop a band over two or three albums knowing that will set the foundation for long term reward. In the 1980s the accountants moved in and turned it in to the music business, meaning short term profit was everything. Therefore the business produces music that provides an instant return on their investment, there is no longer a "long game". But then isn't part of the problem, as we have both said in the past, that a lot of people today are now happy to be spoon-fed their music? |

He has more grey hair than me and im 44. Its not up to us to change things, we need to leave this generation alone and let them deal with it. If they really dont like the music they have , it will eventually change. If they like it they will keep listening to it. Another genre or sound will come and react to what we have now if they want it so much.
Under 25s are not automatons that just listen to Drake,Justin Beiber and Adele you know. I have 4 kids under 25 and I know all about their musical tastes...one of them plays in a band as well, her fav artist being Fleetwood Mac. |

Everything I hate about popular music can be summed up by listening to Capital FM between about 7am and 9am. All so awful.

Whilst Paul Joseph Watson is unbearably smug and condescending stating but, in general, he is stating the bleedin' obvious.

He said that up until the 1980s the music industry bosses were former musicians, the big band leaders of the 1930s and '40s, and so understood the "long game" where you develop a band over two or three albums knowing that will set the foundation for long term reward. Therefore the business produces music that provides an instant return on their investment, there is no longer a "long game". But then isn't part of the problem, as we have both said in the past, that a lot of people today are now happy to be spoon-fed their music? frank zappa in the clip summed it up rather well i thought. old men would give young musicians a go, theyd take a punt on them, "if they sell some copies great, if not *shrugs shoulders* " - and that is why imho we had so much variety in the past, people taking punts on young peoples ideas instead of being spoon fed. nevertheless....he has a strong point. blacklivesmatter IS a racist group who bemoan white police officers arresting/shooting what turns out to be known serial offenders from paedophiles to drug dealers who are often armed. meanwhile black on black violence far far outstrips anything the cops have done. but we arent supposed to know about that.
