Tonight's episode was quite painful to watch to say the least from poor acting to awful continuity to ridiculous storylines I can honestly say this is the worst I have ever seen the show

Even in lucy Allan's or emma smithwicks era things were never as bad as this characters changing too minutes last week Tony hated Ste now he's never been so proud of him in his life and for what exactly? Stes drug addiction is totally unneeded and is a slap in the face to all the progress the character made since arriving and the warren storyline is laughable to say the least

Hollyoaks has always been a show with extreme storylines but honestly how any of the cast could sit back and read these scripts and not think what are these writers on bewilders me

Any thoughts?

Since Kirkwood. Continuity has never been hollyoaks strong point but the last few years has been terrible. Not only that but instead if coming up with new storylines, they drag out the same tired storylines for Months.

It's strange even when he first took over it wasent this bad which makes me question is it him or the two executives producers 2013 and 2014 had its up and downs it all seemed to go down hill with the nico plot from then on it become more and more ridiculous

I don't think the show is garbage at all. Out of the three soaps I watch, Corrie, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks, Hollyoaks is the best right now. Yes some of the stories are over the top like Nico the teenage serial killer but its funny story. The stuff with Pete and Cleo at the trial was very good and very realistic. I really like Jade and Alfie's pairing and both of them are played by good actors, I love the Lovedays Simone is one of my favorite soap characters right now and I'm enjoying Warren's return and his interactions with Sienna. As for you comments about Ste, I think he is someone who is very easily influenced and I think his current plight with drugs speaks to that. For me Hollyoaks has a lot going on right now and its more entertaining than the other soaps at the moment.

I don't know which episode you refer to. I watch C4 pace. I think Hollyoaks is doing pretty well at the moment and has been doing for a while

Hollyoaks storytelling is different to the way the other soap do it with the exception of home and away and the stories facilitate this need although not that well to be fair

Oh, a Hollyoaks bashing thread, not seen one of those in a while!!!!!

It's been fine, not perfect by any stretch, but no soap is perfect. Hollyoaks is best when they do gritty storylines. The Cleo/Pete story was unmissable, in my opinion.

I do, however think that Channel 4 need to grow some balls and get rid of Kirkwood.

I think Hollyoaks has lost it's appeal to a large amount of it's fans, and long time fans like myself, can no longer watch what they are trying to pass off as "Drama".
I have said this before and i will say it again, Hollyoaks should be axed! It could have been the best soap on british TV but has blown it now, terrible how once a great show could go so far downhill.

It makes me sad to look back over the years at some amazing character's they have had. And even more sad to think some of them should still be there to appeal, to long term fans.

I agree with all of this. I watched it from the very first episode and sang it's praises for a long time. but something changed after Brendan and mitzee left, and the final straw for me was when dodger was revealed as Nico's father. Haven't watched it since though I do still read the spoilers to see if there is anything that might entice me back. There isn't.

The constant thrusting of Ste to the centre of the show is what makes me turn off.

When they turned Dodger and Sienna into Cersei Baratheon and Jaime Lannister and their little hellspawn into Joffrey.

I stopped watching last October.

I never had a problem with the acting, it was the storylines and scripts that got so bad. I could never invest in characters because of their overnight personality transplants, or like couples together because they'd split up within a couple of weeks.

I mean, John Paul sleeping with Lockie in the headmasters office of the school he was raped in barely a year previously - that was when I seriously began to think of giving up watching.

The Ste drugs storyline is terrible. The actor is phoning in the performance. As for Harry, bloody hell is there a more wodden actor in soapland.

if you want to see a proper portrayal of drug addiction you just have to watch the fantastic performances of the actresses who play Holly and Moira in Emmerdale. I never rated the actress who plays Holly previously but she has really stepped up to the mark in the last two weeks.

Totally agree I was a fan of HO back in 1995 when it first started and it's had it's sketchy moments on and off- but lately it's pure and utter trash! A few weeks ago this tiny village had three serial killers running around causing mayhem- it's honestly just sensationalist garbage!

Also Ste getting every story line ever is also extremely grating!

The last storylines I truly enjoyed in HO was Hannah Ashworth's Anorexia and John Paul and Craig.

I agree on the whole it has been better than it has for a while with the odd exception like.

Ste and the revolving door drugs sl. Been there done that with this character several times over. Do a drug sl on somebody else if they must.

One dimensional characters like Marnie.

On the up side there have been some better things like the paedo Pete conclusion, Jade and Alfie. Mercedes' attempts at mothering JJ and Lexi and her family unit with Joe.

I'd also say it began when kirkwood returned. It was still good back then, but rewatching eps from back then you could see the quality very very slowly beginning to deteriorate. I think it dipped with a bang late 2013 early 2014 though. they're have been a few good eps over the years, including the pete trial eps, the loveday flashback ep and a few more. I will say the quality does seem to be beginning to slowly rise a tad, but it has a long long way to go. The thing about ho is when it is good it is very good, but when it is bad it is very very bad.
