Roderick David Stewart in his own words. Born in Highgate, North London, on 10th January 1945. Rod's father Robert Joseph Stewart came from King's Port in Edinburgh, Scotland. Rod's mother, Elsie, came from Upper Holloway, North London

Oh really he has never made a secret of it, his parents are Scottish and he has always had an allegiance to Scotland.

I remember in the 70's and 80's he used to proclaim that he was Scottish every chance he got. He wore tartan a lot and supported some Scottish football team. He used to talk about it when he did the chat show rounds - Parkie and the like. He's not by birth but is by choice (and heritage ).

I think Londoner Rod would rather be anything but English, even Americans don't sound so American as he does when he sings. The irony is that he has been knighted and now is a 'sir'.

Why is that ironic? Scottish people are as entitled to knighthoods as English people.

I still don't get where the irony is in someone wanting to be Scottish and accepting a knighthood. Surely knighthoods aren't England's exclusive property, they can be given to people from any part of the UK.

My point was that he really doesn't want to be here or admit he's English, and he's a tax exile, so he shouldn't be knighted. That applies to Mick Jagger and Tom Jones also.
