Does anybody else watch it? It's really hit and miss, but you get some real curios. Last night had Confessions of a Sex Maniac, in which Roger Lloyd Pack (Trigger in Only Fools and Horses) played a long-haired lothario using a flimsy excuse to get women to expose their breasts and then have sex with him. I guess it was early 1970s and there was virtually no plot at all – in fact the entire film seemed just a blatant excuse to show naked flesh at a time when it still seemed daring. Last week there was a very strange short film made by Peter Sellars and Spike Milligan, but it mostly features little-know films by actors who are far more well known now than they were at the time. Some are poor but some are very good – nearly all British and a refreshing change from the usual culprits given constant re-runs.

I agree sometimes the films are a bit hit and miss. But its well worth a look i.m.o. due to the fact you get a lot of classic british B/W films from studios that are long gone. I enjoy the channel.

Some of the films are from the 30s.Sorry these films arent for me as I wasnt born until 66.I like old movies just not as old as this.Would have preferred if this channel showed old tv shows from the 60s 70s 80s 90s.Stuff that the public would love to see again like Black Beauty, General Hospital, Follyfoot,Werewolf, Lassie, The Rifleman, Wilde Alliance, Benny Hill,

Its a free channel - and for what its worth not a too bad one

Yes they could show some other classic TV series from the past which would go down well

Horse & Country channel showed Black Beauty not too long ago I seem to recall

You need a freeview hd tv set to get both these channels. Also youmay live in an area where the hd mux is not available.

Talking Pictures showed the serial, The Flockton Flyer when it first came to Freeview.

This channel has showed some fine films in the past few months. I can remember 'Fear Is The Key' starring Barry Newman, Suzy Kendall and Ben Kingsley (with hair) on a Saturday evening. This film begins with a 20 minutes car chase (shades of 'Vanishing Point').

Do anyone remember the comedy, 'The Big Job' with Sidney James and Dick Enemy? The jokes are very 'Carry-On' but has some decent laughs. A great supporting cast.

Jigsaw - A crime film set on location in Brighton. It stars Jack Warner as a policeman trying to solve a murder of a girl.

The sci-fi 'chiller', 'The Night Caller' is a bit of an oddity! The plot involves an alien arriving on Earth and kidnapping glamorous females to take back to his planet to re-populate! The studio brought over the American actor, John Saxon to give it more appeal. There was this surreal scene with Warren Mitchell as a father of one of the abducted girls.

Maybe the OP could change the thread title to 'Talking Pictures Tv Thread'? Members could alert other members of decent films to see as to my knowledge, there's no tv listings magazine which includes this fine channel.

The last film I saw on talking pictures was home before midnight, from my favorite sleaze merchant Pete Walker.

It was beautifully shot, but awkward veiwing.

Its about someone in the music industry who enters into a sexual relationship with a girl who he later finds out is only 14....

I weaned myself off listings magazines years ago, and now just use the free "Discover TV" app on my tablet. This is linked with Radio Times, and often has very detailed listings. It does include the Talking Pictures channel. I've watched a few oddities there having spotted them in the listings.

I loved Spare the Rod.

Never realised how good an actor Max Bygraves was. Donald Pleasance not being sinister and nice to see a young Richard O'Sullivan too, as well as a very young Boba Fett (Jeremy Bulloch) as the real troublemaker.

Yes, TP is on the whole, a pretty good channel - it's a pity, they don't show some Deanna Durbin films though - 1940s musical classics!

You'll be out of luck then because they only show classic movies, not new ones.

Take a drink when you see....

Warren Mitchell
Dandy Nichols.
John Laurie
Sidney James
Wilfred bramble
Wilfred hyde-pierce (I think that's his name)
Richard Attenborough
Thora hird

'The Big Job' is scheduled for 4.15pm on Monday 18th July.

Comedy. A gang of crooks are caught on a big job and are put away behind bars for 15 years. Having served their sentence, they set out to recover their loot only to find there is now a Police Station where it is buried!

Stars Sidney James, Sylvia Syms, Dick Emery and Joan Sims.

Talking Pictures has rapidly become one one my favourite channels.

It's refreshing to see British films that just don't get shown anymore and I've been enjoying the reruns of Southerns "Together".

Still too new for TP. They occasionally - very occasionally - show the odd film from the 1990s but only if they're really cheap British or American B-movies and they always put them on in the middle of the night. Nothing mainstream, ever.

Photographing Fairies is on one of the main channels every now and then though it's been a few years since it was last on.

Also, add Sam Kydd, Ronald Leigh-Hunt, Michael Balfour, John Bentley, and Paul Carpenter to the list of regular performers. Rare to see a film without one of them appearing...
