'The Big Job' is scheduled for 4.15pm on Monday 18th July.

Comedy. A gang of crooks are caught on a big job and are put away behind bars for 15 years. Having served their sentence, they set out to recover their loot only to find there is now a Police Station where it is buried!

Stars Sidney James, Sylvia Syms, Dick Emery and Joan Sims.
I show know this as fact, cause I've seen it at least twice in recent months, but it is a peter Rodgers production. Isn't it?

Essentially its a carry on. And a very good one, that most people haven't seen really....

Warren Mitchell will show up if you leave TP on long enough. We could come up with a talking pictures drinking game.

Take a drink when you see....

Warren Mitchell
Dandy Nichols.
John Laurie
Sidney James
Wilfred bramble
Wilfred hyde-pierce (I think that's his name)
Richard Attenborough
Thora hird
I assume you mean Wilfred Hyde-White?

Yes, 'The Big Job' is a Peter Rogers Production. It's also directed by Gerald Thomas, the other Carry-On stalwart.

Set to record, remember watching this a few times as a kid, can't wait to see it again.

Great channel, just been able to get it since we got a HD receiver.

Recorded "Home Sweet Home" with Frank Randle, I had heard his films do not do him justice, and I have to agree, not very good at all. I do think I discovered the inspiration for Wee Jimmy Krankie in the film though

It's interesting in these older films how non-pc they were, but in an innocent way for the time.

A film on Sunday about airline pilots called Trouble in the Sky showed the late great Bernard Lee patting a lady's tight-skirted bottom and saying to her "there's a good girl" as she went to find some paperwork for him! It made my wife wince a bit, though.

I spotted this morning that Talking Pictures TV wasn't available this morning on Freeview HD. Has the plug suddenly been pulled? I like this channel too and hope it's just a temporary glitch.

A major fire at their playout house according to their Twitter, but they say they should be back now.

I recently saw 'Tomorrow At Ten' on TP, a decent little thriller with John Gregson and Robert Shaw (before he starred as Red Grant in 'From Russia With Love'). The plot involves Shaw kidnapping the young son of a well-to-do business man and holding him to ransom. If he doesn't pay up, a bomb in a cuddly toy which Shaw left with the boy, will explode at a certain time!

This leaves Gregson, a policeman, in a race against time to get Shaw to reveal where the boy is.

It's a very non-pc as a particular word is repeated many times during this film! I'm sure they wouldn't get away with it today.

Blimey, if you think that was bad don't watch 'The Winds Of Change' on the same channel, it's far more non-pc than this film.

Is this the film set at the time of the Notting Hill race riots with Johnny Briggs? If so, l caught a few seconds of it and heard some of the strong dialogue!

There is a brilliant film called Strongroom which Talking Pictures have shown a few times recently which is really worth a watch. The film stars Darren Nesbitt and Keith Faulkner in which a gang of robbers attempt to rob a bank but end up locking two people (the bank manager and his receptionist) inside a strongroom. The two gang leaders have second thoughts later on and attempt to break into the bank again to rescue them to avoid a possible murder charge.

I also love 'The Big Job' with Sid James, this is very much in the same vein as the Carry On films and is hilarious

Yes that's the one. As you say some very strong dialogue that I doubt would be allowed today.

A little gem of a film to record if you can't stay awake or have to get up early.

'Jigsaw' (1962) Monday 1st August at 23.50.

Crime starring Jack Warner and set in Brighton. This plot involves a detective (Warner) trying to solve the murder of a woman.

I didnt care for it. It wasnt the mystery/puzzle the ads on TP implied it was.... And i found it a wee bit dull, to be honest.
