Long shot... Do you know what this recent album was?

I was in HMV a wee while ago (I'd say this year but you know how time plays tricks) and there was an album that caught my eye and intrigued the **** of me.

Almost bought it on impulse, didn't, been curious about it since.

The album cover was covered in writing (I think front and back) which was a, I guess, the main songwriter explaining the process of recording the album - how they got really experimental by putting microphones at different points round the studio, so rather than mixing volumes of different instruments digitally they did it by just placing thinks nearer or further from the mic. If they wanted guitars quiet in the background they placed the guitarist across the room furthest from the mic.

I'm simplifying because I can't remember all the details but it sounded like a potentially very interesting album just based on the essay on he cover. It might have been a rubbish album but I'm very interested to know more about it whatever it was.

So, a massive long shot, but does anyone have a clue what album I'm thinking of?

That doesn't seem to be it, there was loads of writing on the cover (or at least the back cover) about the recording process.

I googled that album and it just seems to have the expected list of songs
On the back.
