From a casting point of view Anton would be the obvious replacement. He's exactly the same archetype as Len - old, male, traditionalist, doesn't like forrin nonsense or Political Correctness Gone Mad much, doesn't really "do" Latin, or any of that contempowaft nonsense, wears pyjamas and a nightcap to bed, naff sense of humour etc etc. The issue is that he's a pretty poor host and any time he's been asked to judge anything else before he's come across as pretty inarticulate and stilted. Most of his "witticisms" on Strictly are funny noises and silly faces and awkward gestures - he's not really one for full sentences. You'd have to get him a pretty good scriptwriter, probably better than Len's.
My preference out of the former pros would be for Karen Hardy because the woman can talk and has built up an appropriate amount of gravitas in terms of opinion with the viewers. I think there are others who could give it a good go but not many. I can't speak as to outside ballroom figures, although I think it definitely should be someone with a solid "ballroom and latin" resume. Len himself I've liked more as the years have gone on, although he was never going to be my favourite judge. I think the personality balance of the panel shifted when Arlene left, and was replaced by first Alesha and then Darcey - female judges who could back the male contestants over the female ones without constantly sounding like they wanted to bork them. I think this freed Len up to be less "BLOKEY BLOKES SPORTSMEN WORRRGH DANCING'S FOR REAL MEN" and hence more bearable. His judging's been poor for at least a couple of series though - just non stop streams of YOU DUN YER BEST, ham-fisted innuendo, and attempts to make every comment somehow relate to the title of whatever song it was that was just danced to before giving one of the four scores he gives out (fewer in the earlier weeks). |

Think of a past male celeb contestant who couldn't dance, but was "entertaining."
That'll be the one. |

Other than that, I'd be happy to see a completely different judge from the Ballroom world (and let's face it, when Strictly started who outside the Ballroom/Latin sphere had heard of Len) to keep at least a semblance of actual dancing, rather than going for a celeb 'dancer'. |

Well, that was surprising, not that Len is leaving but how I found out. I heard Jeremy Corbyn mention it at Cameron's last PMQs.
![]() ![]() ![]() Pity he says he couldn't do it as he hasn't got a paso doble. It'd be nice to have a judge who can be spontaneously witty/deliver a pre-scripted witticism as though it is spontaneous. |

Sort of inevitable, but very sad all the same. The choice of the replacement judge will be critical to the continued success of the show. Strictly isn't the Len show, just as it wasn't the Brucie show, but he's a component that will be much missed by the stalwart viewers who've (most of them) watched 12 series with him at the helm of the judges' table.

Of the pros I'd vote for Karen Hardy, Darren or Lilia.
I think after this series would be a good time to get rid of the 'head judge' role and in the event of a tie go to the public vote to decide which couple leaves. , So happy, Len is leaving. I think Karen Hardy will be very good, but I suspect he will make sure his best buddy Anton, replaces him. People underestimateLen's control on the show. |

Angela Ripon would be a good call, a reference back to the original series in the 70s and 80s plus she is a trained ballroom dancer so does know her stuff.

You forget that her boys Mark and Derek involved with DWTS and so she is well used to a format that is less about the dancing and even with the changes in Strictly it still has more content than the DWTS format

I can remember a few years ago a couple on ITT - Donnie Burns and Gaynor Fairweather? - when Claudia was still at the helm. She was trying to get them to say every dance was super hard and every celeb was super fab, and they were having none of it - can I vote for them?

I wonder if Darcy will leave as well? She always said she would stay as long as Len was there.
I'd actually like to see Bruno tone down his act and get the head judge slot. I wouldn't be surprised if the show took on one of the former pros who have been judging the various Strictly spin offs around the world. They'd have all the right experience. |

Fair play for the years he's put in but I shan't miss Len.
Karen is too gurny. Anton or Brendan would be fine, shame they can't get rid of Bruno and have both. Shirley Ballas is very good and knows exactly how it works. To be honest, keep Craig, bet rid of the other three and have Craig, Shirley, Anton and Brenda . |

Definitely needs someone with a strong background in latin and ballroom. One of the ex professional dancers would be my ideal choice as they would know what they were talking about, and be recognisable to viewers. Ian Waite would be the best choice imo. He toes the line between talking sensibly about the steps and mechanics and being funny really well on the wednesday warm up. He'd look great walking Darcy across the floor too!
Is Jason Gilkison a potential? He judges on other shows and is currently director of choreography on strictly. |

Ah, so it's only an opinion (based upon "what you've seen & heard", but where you are unwilling or unable to relate "what you've seen & heard").
OK. Got it. ![]() as a head judge, controlling it, I am sorry I can't help you there. BIB ???? |

I remember reading that Bruno said he wouldn't do it without Len so I think what are the chances he will stick to his word and stand down with Len?

David Cameron rules himself out of Len's job he has still been given bookies odds to appear as a contestant though.

I think and would almost put money on it that when Len stands down another judge will follow meaning that Strictly 2017 will be having at least 2 new judges and giving it the makeover its been needing for the last 4 or 5 series

I reckon James Jordan would be a good judge, in the same way people like Simon Cowell, no BS and gives it straight.
We already have the nicey nicey judges Bruno and Darcy, we need someone with a bit of fire in their belly who isn't scared about being unpopular. |

Bruno said he would stand down if Len left DWTS - when Len did - Bruno didnt.
Donnie would be ok as a judge but a bit full of himself if the BBC are looking to the dance world there are many to choose from and can think of a few with TV experience too - but whoever the BBC chooses I think it will be someone with Ballroom/Latin experience - of my fellow professionals on my fb and twitter all are saying if it has to be someone from the show they want it to be Karen or Ian |

He's not knowledgeable enough in Ballroom, in my opinion. Need someone with good knowledge of both disciplines.
