Didn't we read somewhere that Elena didn't spare Gleb from criticism when she was judging the Russian version?

The difference with Strictly is that you are not judging the Pro - they are judging the celeb.

It will be like a lot of other things.
They will do screen tests and auditions.

Best audition wins.
End of.

IMHO If Darcy left then Aliona should be a judge.

To replace Len you need someone from the competitive Ballroom/ Latin world, but they must be able to communicate to the General Public.
This is Len's strength on Strictly.

Robin Windsor might be an idea..?

As long as it's not Donny, Lisa Riley or Russell Grant I shall be a happy lass...

The Sun today thinks its a battle between Anton and Brendan Cole.

Technically they are judging the celeb - but how many times has a judge been criticised for seeming to pick on or favour a pro dancer?

I could see Anton being given a shot at the Top Job - he is continuity with the show's beginnings, even at Official Anton Age he must be pushing it for being kept on the pro rosta, with the ... less dedicated ... viewer he probably has the most name recognition of all the dancers.

I'm not saying it would be a good thing, and I'm not saying he would be any good - but I can see that the power-that-be thinking he would be a good continuity.

The Daily Mail, too. The article says they've both been "waiting for this opportunity," which probably explains why they've both hung on so long.

I truly believe that if the producers were to use someone from the show as a replacement for Len then Karen is the only one imo qualified to do so - she is an international judge, an ex world champ etc Anton and Brendan not judges (despite Brendan's stint on NZ Strictly) and for me not the right fit - from what I have heard already still think someone new will be brought in

I agree that between Karen, Brendan and Anton, the best choice would be Karen.

I'm still hoping for Shirley Ballas, though.

Anton was a judge on The peoples Strictly and he was surprisingly good

I love the show, but don't watch/ read/ take notice of anything peripheral to it and only pop in here to ask a question about SCD, so apologies if this has been covered many times, but one thing confuses me.

Every headline and article I notice seems to be asking who should come in to replace Len. Is there any reason why one of the current judges couldn't or shouldn't be 'promoted' to Head Judge and someone else replaces them? I mean, 'Head Judge' is meaningless; it's just to designate who has the casting vote should it be necessary. Len presumably got it out of deference to his age and/ or experience, so IMO, Bruno is the obvious choice (Craig's far too pantomime to take seriously, as he's meant to be) and then someone like Anton can backfil for Bruno.

What I'm asking is, why does it seem to be out of the question that one of the remaining judges be the new Head Judge?

If they were going to always hire pros who can teach the 10 dances and actually have specific standards to aim for, then it is very important to have judges who can do something between make a well educated guess and actually judge correctly regarding the dancing.

My guess is that the new head judge will be someone who has not worked on the show before, but has experience in judging Ballroom and Latin, has a likeable personality, and is prepared to 'be flexible' to make the Show 'better'.

As Len Goodman explained, when addressing the reasons why the 4 judges come up with their differing scores, 'Bruno's from the world of Pop Videos and Choreography'
'Craig - he's from the world of Theatre', 'Darcey - from the world of Ballet'.

They are supposed to be judging dances which mainly consist of the 10 Ballroom and Latin dances. Len lends an air of authority to the judging because he has judged those dances professionally.

We don't know for sure that the other three are staying yet. I'd lose Bruno now and replace him with Brendan and Len with Anton. I wouldn't mind Ian Waite either. Erin was a good call I saw earlier. I wouldn't mind a lot of the previous professionals actually although I've never been able to warm to Karen Hardy.

Despite Karen sometimes saying things like "the voice of dance speaks through the body" (or some bollox like that) she really would be the most appropriate person to take over Len in terms of knowledge, qualifications, familiarity with programme, etc. Also, I'm going to put my feminist hat on and say I'd like to see another woman in the panel.

I really wouldn't like to see Anton as a judge. I can stand a couple of minutes of him once a week for a number of weeks. To see him sprouting "Har Har! Marvellous!" after every dance for nearly two hours for 12 weeks+ would be excruciating for me. Just painful.

ETA: I'd also be happy with Erin

So Len's an all-rounder, whereas the others are more niche? I didn't realise that, thanks.

Len is niche too but it is the correct niche for Strictly.

BIB ????”

Len never wanted to be head judge, it was a role he was put into by the bbc - he had no control over that decision. He was even less happy about having to make decision of who to save in the dance offs - but again, he who pays the pipers calls the tune!

As Strictly is supposed to be based mostly on ballroom and Latin dances, then it seems only right that the head judge should be qualified in that field. If the whole show was based on freestyle, stage-dance, ballet, etc., then one of the other judges would qualify.

Karen Hardy would be my choice to replace him next year.

Anton judged a few of the Strictly tour shows, especially in London. I think with a script he'll do just fine. I think he's important for continuity and hope he gets the job. I'm wondering if they're nudging Len out, but then I always assume that, no matter what they say, and I'm sure I'm wrong some of the time. Maybe it's just a coincidence that Anton's time as a pro dancer needs to end - and Len just decided to quit, even though in the past he's said he'd stay with Strictly as long as he possibly could. Please no Karen! I'd rather have Arlene.

if Anton was to replace Len would stop watching having to put up with him on the show dancing is bad enough without him being a judge - Anton as a latin 'expert' would be a joke too

Donnie Burns? Can't find much info on line about him though to see if it's feasible.
