CS: Graeme

Was just thinking, with the obvious depressing times about to hit the Platt family in the coming days, it would be nice to bring back Graeme Proctor, David's old friend from juvi. I think in a few months David will need cheering up and will need his best friend around again, it would be nice if Kate Oates brings him back, even if only for a few episodes. Graeme was funny, and I imagine him and Tim could be a funny partnership.

Loved him!

Craig Gazey left at the height of Graeme's popularity and I think that the actor thought he was 'better' than Corrie.

I haven't missed him.

We have enough mindless buffoons flooding Coronation Street, we don't need another one.

Why does this forum have the mentality that because an actor chooses to move on with their life they think they are 'better' than something?

Guess when any of us change jobs, we must think of ourselves above our previous workplace.

Graeme is welcome back any time. He had that rare quality which I believe is the mark of a great character in that you could put him in a scene with anyone and come up with something great, but due to poor storylines he never really got the chance to shine. As long as Xin isn't with him!

Didn't they fall out when he got with Tina? They would've better bringing back Martin

He left to go back to the theatre, he has been in quite a few theatre productions, including the west end, since then. It seems he enjoys theatre more than tv/film.

As much as I liked him he should be kept in the past. He wasn't even back for Tina's funeral.

Speaking on friendships though what male friend does David actually have? I think it's time they found him another friend, the show seems to be lacking them at times.

I agree - its ridiculous and makes people look extremely bitter!

He never once said that. I can remember Craig saying at the beginning of his tenure on Corrie that he didn't intend staying for long because he wanted to take on a variety of roles.

If you are anyway serious about being an actor then tying yourself down to a soap long term is the worst possible career movery you can make.

Well yeah I think most people do see new jobs as moving upwards. Not many people would be happy to return to a job they left years ago - we think we are now more skilled and worth more money etc than we were back then.

But for the character himself, I'd love to see Graeme again, he was funny and great in the show up until he cheated on Tina.

The difference between Graeme and the present mindless buffoons is that he was a very funny character, and Craig Gazey is a terrific actor.

he has Nick

I think he needs a friend too, maybe Tyrone, the fact they are dads gives them something in common

Yes this is correct, apart from his comical moments I don't remember him being stupid. There was a nice storyline in 2010 when he supported Tina after her dad's death. Whereas Kirk is unbelievably stupid at the best of times.

I liked Graeme, he was hilarious but his exit s/l was one of the biggest piles of Corrie crap ever!!
I do think he was one of those characters who was best remembered as 'of his time' though & I'm not sure they could recreate the magic of his first stint again!!

I think that David was also friends with Darryl Morton? He was quite a good, quirky character unlike the rest of that disastrous family.

They did fall out, yes (I think when David found out, Graeme chained him to a radiator to keep him from attacking him). They made up in the end though and didn't Kylie/ David have a joint wedding with Graeme/Xin?

Graeme is one of my most-missed characters, I'd love to see him return. There's definitely an opportunity there with David needing a good friend.

I remember reading an article where William Roache was quoted as saying if he'd known he'd still be there 50+ years later he would never have done the audition for Corrie back in 1960, not sure how true that is though.
