The clue now I think is that it must surely have been longer than 9 months ago!!”

Surely the assumption would be that she isn't pregnant unless told otherwise?

I think people just expected a pregnancy because that's what happens after one-night stands in soaps 95% of the time.

Who knows, maybe she gave birth in secret and gave it up? Then the child turns up on the street in years time and reveals they are the son/daughter of Alya and Jason.

The way the scenes were played at the time, it was as though Alya was lying about the test being negative, so you can't blame people for being confused.

Not to mention that a ONS in a soap leading to a character taking a pregnancy test usually leads to a positive result.

The storyline seemed like it was going to be about her shame at not just sleeping with Jason but having his baby, and her family's reaction to both. But was all rather pointless in the end like so many of SB's storylines.

It wasn't pointless, it led to Alya and Gary splitting up.

Yes it was another of those scenes/storylines that just vanished into the ether with no real explanation one way or the other so after a few weeks we were just left to assume she wasn't!!
On a personal level I really couldn't have cared less one way or the other as I find her one of the most needless introductions of recent years!!

You can say for the 1000th time all you like but that is flimsy evidence to put forward. Let's have some proof to back your statement up.

I don't understand why people don't watch a show, then come here and ask everyone to update them - and this is such an old storyline! Why would you not watch a show, then ask people to update you?

No one needs proof. The fact she has shown no signs of being pregnant or giving birth since sleeping with Jason over 12 months ago should be a no brainer.

A couple nobody cared about anyway.

Although having said that the same applies to Alya and the Nazirs in general.

If there was nothing more to it than a simple negative result, why give it so much focus even to the extent of having somebody (Sinead? IIRC) cover for her.

It feels like somebody in the production office caught wind of how much of a flop the Nazirs had been so changed the story. They went into the background not long after that.

Aye, because that is how stories work. They aren't planned at all, they just decide to change it on the whim because a few members on a forum may dislike the characters.

The fact they have been on the show for over two years shows nobody behind the scenes consider them a flop.

I would go along with this. They left it open to interpretation because it was something they might have been keen to explore. Alya and Gary were always going to split regardless of her action. What probably jeopardised it in the long term was the actor playing Jason leaving. He would've told them months in advance, they only publicised it in October. And this storyline was aired in July. So a quick write-up could have been in order when filming happened.

In Canada, they didn't get to see the scene where Alya told Sinead about it being false alarm. The whole storyline was shoddily done.

I was under the impression that it was just under 12 months. That type of solid evidence is good enough for me and it should be good enough for anyone else who is still in doubt. Finally we can put an end to the rumors.

It seemed that there was going to be a feud between Gary and Jason. Didn't Gary say to Jason that he was going to get with Eva? But,nothing seemed to happen thereafter.

I do agree that it was a blink and you miss it statement that the test was negative and as we didn't actually see her do it (not weeing obviously but generally you see the woman look down at the result so can gauge what it is from their facial reaction, or they even show the test saying 'prEgnant' or 'not pregnant' it was entirely plausible that she was lying to Sinead until she'd figured out how she felt about ut. Or was just in denial over it.

But as weeks, and then months go by with no signs of pregnancy or her looking preoccupied or upset, it did become clear that she really hadn't been.
