Your views on "Bat Out Of Hell" album by MeatLoaf?
I purchased the remastered version of this classic a few days ago after an old copy finally gave up and died.
Considering It's almost 40 years old I'd like to know what you guys think of it. I think it's amazing. http://www.nuclearblast.de/static/ar.../1000x1000.jpg Two Out Of Three Aint Bad: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5hWWe-ts2s |

Great album.
I was impressed that Todd Rungren who did the arrangements, was able to produce the sound of a motorbike on his guitar. I've always liked Todd Rungren. I bought his "Something Anything" album in the early seventies. I've this single from it in one of my jukeboxes, where he plays every instrument and sings the lead and the backing vocals (not all at the same time). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vD-vyHntGY |

I'm not a great fan of Meatloaf at all, but I adore every track on BOOH. One of the few CDs which OH & I both owned, when we got together.

Adolescent, ridiculous, pompous, poignant, operatic, witty...songs that seem to be composed of choruses and guitar breaks...songs that continually find new cadences to resolve...sometimes sounding like the best bits of the Rocky Horror picture show...every moment is over the top .....the perfect congruence of composer, producer and singer.
To me it's a masterwork and a masterpiece....it catches the true nature of rock music, singing earnestly about nothing at all. I never tire of it. |

The documentary of the making of it has been on BBC4 many times.

It's completely over the top and cheesy as hell. I love it!
It's just a fun album with some great riffs and songs - some great playing on it too. |

My GF back in the 80's loved it and played it at every opportunity, we eventually split up as she was emotionally disturbed so now I hate it as it reminds me of her.......
Musically it is over produced and one dimensional - that's not a bad thing as a lot of my music that I listen to is - but I'm surprised its lasted this long. Bit over-rated then. |

An album I will never tire of hearing. Saw the "Last At Bat" tour and can't recall when I've seen anyone put as much energy and passion into the performance as Meat did that night.

Bat Out Of Hell II was good and huge in 1992 after the No.1 single I'd Do Anything For Love, top for 7 weeks, but I don't play it now. Find it too long at 75min and rather overblown. Always come back to the original and best. Bought the third one too but wasn't keen.

Yes Bat Out Of Hell + Bat Out Of Hell 2 are classics, the rest of his albums less so. But I've always had a soft spot for Meat Loaf, one of the great larger than life characters of the Rock world.

Some nice responses in this thread. Thanks guys.
Bat Out Of Hell 2 is also a good album. A bit overblown at times but still very good. No idea why "Back Into Hell" is on there though - the album would've worked much better without it, tbh. |

I hated it for being pretentious, overblown nonsense when it first came out.
I still hate it. |

Bat is a brilliant album for crying out loud is a underrated monster of a ballad
Originally he couldn't get a record company to take the album. One thought it was a joke of trying to parody Springsteens born to run album and laughed them out the room . Interesting though that the piano player and drummer on the album are from Springsteen e street band. Bat 2 is pretty good too It's a well deserved classic. Unlike a few other big selling albums in recent years |

It's a unique album really, and it still sounds great. No one other than Meat Loaf could get away with it.
