I may well be reading too much into this but Cassandra also said when Rose asked what happened to the human race that they went out and "touched every star" so who knows where someone of them ended up....

I'm not sure that this is the place to ask, but after messing around for most of the day, I've finally got a DVD of the first three episodes with working menu, and audio that's finally in synch (which was the big bugbear, had to keep authoring the disc with a different delay on the audio to get it just right, my authoring programme didn't want to let me preview the video and audio at the same time). Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has either made, or found a DVD cover for the three episodes on one disc. I've found plenty of individual ones, but nothing like what I'm looking for.

That's kind of the way I was thinking about it - Rose seems a fair bit like her Mum at the moment (fairly carefree, headstrong etc), but her Dad may have been completely different. Although the fact that he was involved in a government conspiracy went straight over my head (I seem to have missed bits of a lot of episodes, mainly due to people phoning me just as things get interesting!).

Actually, I don't know if he was involved in the conspiracy or not, that was why I said my own idea was weak because it was just random speculation. So, no, you didn't miss that in any episodes.

But we do know that there has been a governemnt conspiracy.
We know that the Slitheen had been around for quite a while before the events in episodes 4 and 5.
And it would be proabable that they were on Earth disguised as humans back in 1986 when next week's episode is set.

And in last week's episode, the Editor said that aliens had been in charge of humans for many years.

I only took a stab in the dark at Rose's dad being a "David Kelly" type figure who was about to blow the whistle on the government coverup, because in every single episode so far, with the exception of episode 2, all the episodes have had parallels with real life subject matter concerned with the Iraq war.

A David Kelly type story might be used, but like I say, this is just a random stab in the dark.

But I still predict that terrorism and religion will appear in future episodes as themes.

I was looking at John Barrowman's (Captain Jack's) website out of curiosity to see what he looks like (very dashing I must say!). Anyway according to the site the first episode he appears in on 21st May apparently airs at 6.25 to 7.10, so make a note in your diaries!

Seems to be because of the eurovision, and the fact that the BBC don't want to get rid of the lottery crap for a night so it's all pushed forward

But I do think you're right - Rose's dad must be involved in something special if he doesn't die. After all, the Doctor is a man who is supposed to be dead (loads of characters have been shocked that there is still one Time-Lord left), but he is still allowed to run around time and space, fiddling with things whenever he likes. What makes Rose's father so different?

Perhaps there is more to Rose's father than meets the eye...

As Alrightmate has put forward in his 'theory' perhaps he was involved in the conspiracy or maybe he saw something he wasn't supposed to or an even more way out theory of my own is could he be not be all that he seems either...

B5 wasn't in our solar system - it's nearest star was Proxima Centuri iirc, but it would make sense to be at one of the Lagrange points in that system.

More likely to be L1 or L2 though, as it was fairly close to a planet.

Off the top of my head, the only thing I can think of which made use of all 5 Lagrange points in our system is the anime Gundam Wing, where they had a space colony (labelled L1 through L5) at each one.

I totally get where your coming from BG and don't want to appear to be argumentative about this, but I think RTD & co should be allowed to be pleased that they have a hit on their hands and they should celebrate the popularity of the show - as he has said - he doesn't make TV for no one to watch.

I guess I'm just trying to be the eternal optimist and put faith in RTD that he knows what he's doing. He has done a fantastic job so far - for me anyway - and some of the knocks (certainly not from you but other, bizarre quarters) he has received have been outrageous. I guess I'm just keen that the man is praised for giving us what we've waited years for.

Having said that - you're right it needs to be kept fresh and invigorated. I have faith that he's aware of that too.

Thanks Black Gaurdian for the answer to my question that an old Dr Who story had two characters meeting each other from different times.

I've just re watched the episode where the Doctor tells the Brigadier if he met his 1977 self in 1983 it would be catastrophic and would short out the Time differential, the Blinovitch limitation effect, or as Tegan would say ZAP! Details of the effect can be found here.

However all that happens to the Brigadier is that he has a nervous breakdown resulting in loss of memory.

It will be interesting to see how they tackle this in next weeks episode

I am ever the optimist but also acutely aware how fickle Joe Public are and how viewing patterns can change. I am full of admiration with what RTD has done with the series, which is reflected in many of my posts and I am sure once the dust has settled with this one, everyone including the production team (which I am sure they are now given they are already steaming ahead with plans for series 2) can look back and reassess what worked and what didn't in order to make it a stronger force for when it returns and faces whatever competition ITV puts up. I am confident that RTD will take his place in history as the man who put DW back firmly on the map (or should I say the TV schedules)!

Perhaps I haven't been in it long enough! Wise words BG - here's to an even better series 2

In the meantime - can't bloody wait for this Sat. One of the main reasons I love DW is the time travel aspect - not just being able to go back and forth, but a good "messing about with time" story and I'm right in there. Great. Star Trek's "Yesterday's Enterprise" - marvellous. Mawdryn Undead - Triffic!

Give it a few years and the industry will turn you to the dark side of the force!

Am very much looking forward to the next episode and seeing how Rose's actions not only affects the timeline but also the development of her relationship with the Doctor. RTD has been rather clever in bringing a lot more 'emotion' into the series, which worked rather well between the 5th Doctor and Tegan I think.

Onwards and upwards as they say.

I know, I'm trying to think of a reason why the Doctor would even take Rose back.

I read somewhere in a synopsis for the episode, that says that the Doctor takes Rose back to see her Father die. Or words cloe to that effect.

As soon as I read that, I had a puzzled look on my face. The Doctor takes Rose back to see her father die?
What kind of a sadistic, sick, f**k is this guy that he'd do that to the poor girl???
I wouldn't do that kind of thing to my worst enemy.(If I had a Tardis that is)

So, like you say, it's probably more likely that there is a good reason for the Doc to take her back.
I can't think of that many reasons why they would go back to that point in time other than they need to for some reason.
It's hard to imagine Rose herself wanting to go back to see her father actually die.
"Doctor, will you take me back in time so that I can watch my father die?"
Doesn't sound that plausible to me really. She must be one hell of a weird girl to even consider doing that.

I'm thinking that they must be going back for a good reason.

Rose asks to go back, then asks to go back again to fix things - because Rose interacts with her Father after he's hit by the car the first time and wipes the hit and run driver from history???

Or at least that's what the trailer suggests.

I think the 1st time shes there she pushes him out the way hence the 'stupid ape' comment in the trail. I would guess she ends up killing him herself to fix time.

Though how Roses mum/dads wedding- and that is what's going on in the church according to mickeys website- and the reapers fit in, who can say?

Have to add the beeb have done a great job of keeping spoilers secret with DW- I remember when buffy and angel were on every detail of every ep was on the 'net long before 1st broadcast.

The idea that the main theme of the series is that money the root of all evil is a very interesting one; in The Unquiet Dead Gwyneth saying that she would have done the job for less money, whereas Sneed got the property cheaply and was trying to hide the fact that there was a problem to keep his business going.

Gwyneth has probably been the only true innocent we've seen in the series.
