Aha, so what about the possibility that it is a new character entirely! I timelord/lady no one has met before but the doctor assumed died in the time war. After all, as you say, he is often saying that he is the only one ( a bit like in old films when they say, "surely nothing can go wrong now....") and the doctor has also said that he 'doesnt do domestic' several times so what if the time lord is a relative, like an evil brother! (AKA as bad sheep (wolf) of the family). It could happen.

According to Lungbarrow, the Doctor didn't have any brothers, although he did have 'cousins', after a fashion.

Although of course, they were all 'brother Timelords.'

I hope you don't take this the wrong way Mr Watts as no offence meant but I hope in this instance that you are wrong as would prefer to see the back of the Slitheen to be frank and not sure I can cope with another episode of farting gags! I wouldn't describe the Slitheen as an 'old friend' either....not with that smell around!

There has been so much played out on the emphasis that the Doctor is the last Time Lord which I think is an assumption on his part..after all he thought the Daleks were long gone and yet one turned up. He has been known to get it wrong in the past.

I hope I'm wrong too - episodes four and five were the weakest of the lot so far, in my opinion.

I've no wish to see them back.

I know! I am hoping that the Face of Boe and the consortium of financiers and who installed the Jagrafess is going to be explored further as promised by RTD in a later episode. Though knowing our luck that will turn out to be the Slitheen! LOL!

Would rather see Jabe, Gwyneth, Clive return to be honest or if it is another Time Lord, then Romana or The Master.

By the way is it just me or have the forums, in particular this one, not had the same buzz and energy, as they usually have. I just noticed that not as many people have viewed this thread or posted as they did the week before.

Anything but the Slitheen - or Davros, and I'll be happy. The Master would be good, as would Romana (not necessarily played by Lalla Ward - after all this time she could, of course, have regenerated.)

Jabe was excellent (and I agree she had lots of potential for more screen time), as was Gwynneth. Not too sure about Clive, but then I don't like his tv adverts.

I think overall the thread isn't doing too badly on post-count. I've always thought the interest generated by the episode relates directly to the number of posts (Dalek and the Unquiet Dead being cases in favour of this - lots of posts/views, and AOL/WW3 - less posts/views.)

I thought last week's episode was ok, Simon Pegg being a high point and the Jaffafeast being not so good. (I still smile at this, so whoever named it so, thankyou very much - I have now bought a new keyboard and refreshed the glass of wine I choked on at least twice). It was certainly better than AOL/WW3, but wasn't up there with Dalek/TUD/EOTW.

I'm also wondering if people are getting a little tired of the Bad Wolf references. Just when someone comes up with a credible idea as to what it could be leading to, up comes another one and turns that idea on it's head.

Whilst we don't want to work it all out too quickly, it's also the case that there are only so many times people are willing to be led up the garden path. Some of the references seem a little abstract at times (as someone else pointed out, almost as if they're thrown in at the last minute).

I do like your idea of a consortium led by the Face of Boe - and whoever came up with Boe being another meme for Bank of Englad was inspired (aka_lucifer I think?) since I know from experience that banks refer to themselves internally by their initials.

I'm not bitter that I didn't think of it first.

I think it was Alrightmate who started the whole thing off regarding money/greed being one of the themes that keeps cropping up and I think a number of others, including aka_lucifer, added to it. I must admit I am rather taken with the idea that a consortium of financiers are controlling everything and are more than happy to invest and involve themselves in matters which may be less than scrupulous. I would be interested to find out who else sits on the board or are part of the consortium.

It could be the Bad Wolf references are putting people off from joining in the debate but I think it is more than people are finding some episodes more inspiring than others.

What are your thoughts about the consortium and the financiers being behind it?

And do you think are returning in The Empty Child/Doctor Dances as many people are speculating?

Can anyone else verify that RTD stated that filming had to be shot around an actress's schedule for episode 11? Or did I imagine it?

Someone did post a message a week or two back claiming they had seen Annette Badland in character climbing out of a window as she filmed a scene. So guess it is a possibility.

But there wasn't actually that much emphasis.

The only emphasis has come from the forums.

The information only existed as part of a brief synopsis. It was only us on the forums who hyped up this episode as the big return of a past Doctor Who villian.

There was some rumour I read on Outpost Gallifrey that Annete Badland is supposed to come back for that episode. Somebody on there said they actually saw a scene with her being filmed in it.
Don't know if it is her as a Slitheen, or the MI5 human version of her.

As Jabe said is that part of the retro! Retro Cybermen...hm! I quite liked the design from the Eartshock era myself but perhaps they might go for a new look now they have a bit of dosh to spend on the series.

It might just happen that the episodes that most people aren't as keen on are also the episodes that don't give much food for thought, and don't have sci-fi ideas that fire the imagination....

..Because if you notice in this thread, we seem to be talking more about events and situations from other episodes rather than last week's offering.

Agreed - I think if AB returns, it will be in addition - and the 'immortal' comment made me think of another Timelord for the same reason.
