The episode was better than I was expecting, but then I wasn't expecting much. It's probably the worst of the bunch so far, but still, it ain't bad TV...just poorer compared to the rest. I voted good.
I hope we will see some more of Adam in the future...maybe next series...you can't leave the guy with the hole in his head

Well I would rather watch Dr Who than Celebrity Wrestling or that other thing where Lisa Scott-Lee conned people into thinking she was Kylie.

I thought this episode was good though I didn't think that there was anything particulaly outstanding about it but there wasn't anything bad about it either.
I thought the background music was a bigger problem in this episode than it had been in the previous 2 or 3 episodes - way too loud. Did anyone knotice any obvious 'Bad Wolf' refrences in this episide? Oh yea, and I can't say I noticed anything different in this weeks opening theme romanwinecow (I just compared it to last weeks and apart from the BBC logo not appearing, I didn't spot any obvious differences) |

Interesting though that money was the theme of the story again. Another FM, 'Alrightmate' picked up on this a while ago as being one of the central themes that would be continued throughout this season and here we are again. I wonder if it is that knowledge, power, in whatever shape or form it takes, including money, corrupts all and that will be explored further in future stories. O dear! Did anyone just watch DW Confidential? RTD has just said that whoever installed the Jagrafess will be explored in a future episode. Groan! ![]() If people are greedy for their own self interests then they are easier to manipulate when it comes to winning the hearts and minds of them if a government wants to go to war. Being fed false news information is one part of it, another part is to instill fear (which was briefly mentioned in the episode. And I believe cheap trashy TV entertainment is the other method to keep the public dumbed down and keep them as controlled masses. I wouldn't worry too much about the future episode that shows who has installed the Jagrafess. It's only part of the story, it doesn't mean the entire episode will be about the monster. I reckon it might be the Face of Boe who was briefly shown at the start of the episode. It was the Face of Boe who brought everyone together on Platform One in episode 2: The end of the world. We had plumbing problems in both episodes. The Face of Boe is probably controlling everything. Do you remember my suggestion that "Bad Wolf" may actually be the name of a reality TV gameshow? Well I reckon that in episode 12. The reality Game show will be called "Bad Wolf" Big Bad Wolf - Big Brother. The people who love reality TV can often get very obsessed with that genre. Manipulation is rife, and I suppose a lot of control can be obtained over the public. It is powerful enough to get more people voting for a reality TV show than actually voting in a general election. I think Russell T Davies may play with this idea. The Face of Boe is probably the organiser of voyeuristic television as part of his powerful media corporation. The gathering of the great and good in episode 2 on platform one was probably one example. "Indupitably, this is a Bad Wolf scenario" The Moxx of Balhoon could well have been talking about the gathering of people to watch the destruction of a planet. That may be what he was referring to as a Bad Wolf scenario, nothing to do with the Doctor. i.e....a Bad Wolf scenario is probably a scenario that involves people watching something as voyeuristic entertainment. Gwyneth said that Rose has seen "The Big Bad Wolf". A Bad Wolf may be reality TV where people can pay tpo watch things such as wars, death, and destruction. The attempted invasion of the Nestene, the Gelth, and the attempt by the Slitheen......a Bad Wolf scenario. The actual destruction of a planet....the ultimate in voyeuristic entertainment......a Big Bad Wolf scenario. That could have been the Big Bad Wolf that Rose had seen according to Gwyneth, we know that Rose had just seen the destrcution of a planet in the previous episode. The darkness may or may not be the space surrounding Earth when it was destroyed. The Darkness, the Big Bad Wolf.....The darkness of outer Space, the death of a planet. The Tardis, or Tardis's(Tardi?) is/are probably the star of the reality show called "Bad Wolf", and is being controlled by teleporting people to big events like wars so that others can watch as pay per view reality TV. So....Bad Wolf could well be a reality entertainment organisation which gets customers to watch wars and the destruction of planets as pay per view television, or as media events such as observation of the destruction of planets. And Bad Wolf may be the name of the Big Brother style gameshow in episode 12, where the Tardis is being directed to special events in history where alien invasions are attempted, and the Doctor is being watched and observed for the voyeuristic amusement of a future audience who get off by being titillated by gawping at the ultimate in death and excitement and misfortune of others. Even wars are used as entertainment in the future. That's what I'm thinking as a possibility any way. |

Maybe it was just interference then, as I have played the recording on more than one TV and there was a dramatic bassier muffled variation of the theme battleing the main. But it could have been anything I guess.

Anyone want to try and defend their rating? Also, I think it had some serious points to make about the manipulation of people through the media (repeated meme, anyone? ). And the transformation of Adam I thought was well done too. I thought the story was well-paced, and it held my attention throughout.I thought there was a little too much explanation by the Doctor near the end - "She's using what I told her about the pipes, she's turning up the heat, the *thingy* will overheat" etc. But maybe they thought that would be needed for the kids watching. *Can't remember what the monster was called, keep thinking Jalfrezi for some reason lol. So on the whole I thought it was great, and next week's looks like it will be very interesting.

i enjoyed the episode but wish in some respects they were spanned out over 2 episodes or so. I quite liked the idea of a rebel group trying to stop it but it was only touched on breifly.
But cant really complain, it was a very entertaining episode. |

Random thoughts:
Did Rose get her phone back? Even if she did, Adam retains quite a lot of potentially dangerous future technology. This was set in 200,000. EOTW was set in 5,000,000,000. The Face Of Boe was in both. That either makes him virtually immortal or a time traveller. |

Our winner is 14 year-old Adam Mitchell from Nottingham. Adam’s mum tells me he’s something of a star with computers, and is bound to have a bright future ahead of him, and make his parents very proud. Adam just wishes I’d not spoken to his mum
It's a Geocomtex competition, so is this how he got involved with Van Statten in the first place?

I had no problems with sound quailty tonight, and the theme tune sounded the same as usual to me! |

Re: the Face of Boe...
It was on TV because it had just got pregnant (although quite how a face can do that, I don't know...). |

Sci-fi forum
Regarding our request for a seperate sci-fi forum, did anyone else see the reply from Beth at the end of last week's thread? I've copied it out below:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have read the comments on this thread about getting a sci-fi forum, as has been mentioned this has been discussed among the team and it was decided there weren't enough threads, posts or potential programmes to warrent a sci-fi forum on the front page. It has been pointed out that the site has smaller forums but they are not on the front page and are specific programme forums within a genre which is very busy on the forum. The reality sub-forums together contain more posts and threads than the TV Programmes forum does. It would be very disruptive to start adding sub forums into TV Programmes as each new forum would add more space at the top to scroll down. With one forum it wouldn't be too bad but it would be unfair to then deny Comedy a forum, maybe then News and Current Affairs and perhaps Sports. Added to this there would then be even more confusion about where to post - despite the announcement at the top of the forum people are still posting 'Soaps and Drama' and 'Reality TV' threads in here. This is not a 'no, not ever' this is a 'no, not now' - starting more threads won't help if they are covering the same subjects they will be merged anyway. I hope this goes some way to explaining the reason for our decision. If you have any further comments to make on the matter I'd appreciate it if you could send them to us via 'feedback'. Thanks. Beth. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

I thought it was a great episode - colourful, fun, intruiging, dramatic.
Only the rebel force could have been expanded on - RTD says we'll hear more of some of the plotlines from this ep, so maybe it will be. This episode was always going to get knocked - esp as it come straight after "Dalek". And I peronally don't understand people going on about the music all the time. I love it and it hasn't intruded once all series for me. NEXT WEEK'S EP LOOKS BRILLIANT!!! |

This has been a complaint about a lot of TV programmes in the past. I seem to remember reading somewhere that the BBC were going to look into this problem as most of the programmes are 'proof listened to' using high quality headphones or audio systems in the editing studios and not normal household TV sets, the latter of which don't tend to have the dynamic range and clarity of professional equipment. |

I enjoyed this one, bit of a relaxer after the high energy of the Dalek one. Liked Simon Pegg & Tamsin Greig. Next weeks looks great
