I know I was hoping for the release of the Note 7 to drop the price of the Note 4, but I didn't expect them to have a fire sale with the Note 7 quite so quickly!

Accept they aren't doing that, and they never do.

Customers can voluntarily return their devices for a replacement if they want to do so. Otherwise they'll quite happily let customers keep using devices and run the risk of catastrophic consequences.
What on earth are you talking about?

They have done a global recall. Is that not ensuring customers do not use the device?

What do other companies do that Samsung aren't?

Batteries are the cause of problems for loads of companies (even airlines and car makers). I had a recall on a universal remote control, and even Nokia phones 10 years ago when lithium ion batteries were quite rare had bulging and potential fire issues.

Best nobody laugh at Samsung because other companies could be affected tomorrow. Yes, even Apple (which has had many recalls over the years, going back to the iPod).

Oh i'm laughing my head off at Samsung because they take the p**s out of Apple on a regular basis. And Apple have never had a global recall of a product as far as I know.. just regional ones for certain serial numbers of products that they felt weren't meeting their expectations.

Paying over £50 a month makes me shudder
I hear ya, but then I know people who spend £50 plus a month on cigarettes, an even more on alcohol. I guess it's horses for course's, what ever you enjoy is where you'll spend your money.

Samsung does the decent thing and does a recall. Contrast that with the terrible customer service from Apple - bendy phones, no reception, touch issues, etc., etc. and no recalls. Plus all those who have died in iPhone fires.

Hmmmm..... 1/10 for troll amusement.

Android isn't a battery, which is what has caused these issues.

Did iOS cause bendy phones, or iphones to blow up?....

I think iOS caused the issue where you text a word to the phone and the whole thing crashes.

Oh, was that the terrible reception caused by "holding it wrong" which they owned up to and gave all customers a free case? Yes that's terrible customer service.

I've had two iPhones and they've both been better than the pile of s&&& Galaxy S3 where it got increasingly difficult to charge because I couldn't get a good contact with the connector in the phone, the battery life got progressively worse every day and it got extremely slow because it ran Android and Touchwiz.

The HTC One M8 wasn't much better, glad to see the back of Android.

Just got off the phone to Samsung, they have said that it is highly unlikely that UK units are affected by the issue, but they are going to call me within 7 days with a courier date to swap to a unit with a better battery. So will continue to use my Note 4 until then, rather that than switch to Apple with their various problems, some of which can be improved with Jail Breaking. Still Apple aren't all bad, at least they provided us with pictures of naked celebrities.

And exactly how long did it take for them to admit to that issue after jobs claimed people were holding it wrong?

The free case was only to stop the potential shitstorm that recalling millions of iphones would have caused!! At least Samsung is actually doing the recall.

I had the S3 and it was a great phone once you installed another launcher that took about 30 seconds to do. Touchwhiz then was absolutely guff i agree. However, Android doesnt make a phone slow down, and add on's from manufacturers and a bad phone like the HTC m8 do not make Android bad either.

I've had iphones as well, and trust me, they aren't all they are cracked up to be! They slow down after time as well and have had plenty of issues in the past!!

Wait, now we're admitting there was an antenna issue if it suits the argument about customer service?

For years it has been said it was not a problem, that other phones were worse, it was made up etc etc.

What next? Apple brings a stylus to the iPhone and we all say that a small screen needs a pen/pencil?

What is wrong with DS? In a thread about the Note 7 catching fire, people are slagging off the iPhone.

Oh there's nothing wrong with DS, this is just normal universal forum behaviour. It's a variation of Godwin's Law - any discussion involving any mobile phone or manufacturer will inevitably end up discussing the pros and cons of Apple!

When I first read about the problems with the Note 7 I knew fanboys would jump at the chance to refer to how great Apple is, despite the fact that I've had two recalls with Apple kit over the years.

I don't fault Apple for either problem, and the response time was excellent. I don't remember saying Apple was bad, even though the battery issue was a fire risk and a HDD issue could have left me with data loss (although Time Machine would have covered me).

To have people saying Android is deadly is just laughable.

So if this happened at 70mph on a motorway what word would you think was a better description?

Though I would say Samsung, rather than android...

Samsung’s massive recall of the Galaxy Note 7 has been making headlines all week, but so far we haven’t seen anything quite this dramatic.

A Florida man says that his Note 7 ignited while charging in the center console of his Jeep Grand Cherokee, and that the vehicle was thoroughly destroyed in the ensuing fire.

I've read there were issues with the iPhone 4 but Apple just replaced phones, and never did a recall.

Battery problems have affected loads of companies, but at least Samsung acted quick. And the fault is in the battery, so surely a similar problem could exist on other products? It may not be over yet, and it may even be non Samsung devices next.

Exactly. Lithium batteries are volatile and a mistake or error in design can cause issues. It's happened to car makers and airlines too.

I would resist using the world explode though. They're not blowing up, just catching fire and burning/melting as a chemical reaction.

Motorola/Lenovo had just made the silly move of joking about Samsung's situation and it has now been pointed out that it had its own problems.

And remember the recalls from Apple on laptops and I think the iPod too? But I don't recall any recall on the iPhone, so I guess people were just holding it wrong!

Just opened your middle thread and it appears the iPhone caught fire after the cyclist fell off his bike and pierced the phone battery on something.

[QUOTEGareth Clear, 36, was out cycling on Sunday afternoon near Sydney, Australia, when he fell from him bike, suffering a few minor grazes.

]“It’s a bit random,” he told dailytelegraph.com.au, “the thing to be very specific about, the phone did hit the ground, it didn’t just spontaneously combust. It was a one in one million chance I hit a part of the phone which pierced the lithium battery and it exploded.[/quote]

And a quick look at link 1 is another user damage story and link 3 is to a forum post for an expanding oow iPhone 4 battery (there's even a pic showing the battery pushing the screen forward, you probably saw that).

You do realise the Note 7 issue is batteries spontaneously combusting without any user damage or external force/factors?

it appears there are a couple of posters allowing their anti-Apple bias to colour their opinion here...

"Galaxy Note 7 is dangerous"

"But but but....bad Apple!!!! Apple...you're holding it wrong"

Is it that difficult to discuss the seriousness and problems of the Note 7 without trying to deflect to Apple as a cover up?
