True, along with an ill-advised coverup by blaming it on faulty batteries initially, they must have realised pretty quickly the battery dimensions were off for the size of the compartment.

Even 3 weeks ago Lufthansa - at the end of their "all phones to flight mode speech" - singled out the Note 7 - "....and all Samsung Note 7s to be switched totally off"

I should imagine airlines will now refuse to fly them at all!

Unless Samsung have seen a x-ray exploding of the note 7 battery in real time slow moed they can't really 100% say what the issue is they can speculate it's something to do with the cells within the battery etc but until they see these cells exploding someone here mentioned that the battery is pinched but like I said above if it was a manufacturing problem millions of devices would of exploded. If it's a device design problem more devices would of exploded

Also the person who said the battery was pinched and too big, I was driving the other day and the device went straight against my door because I turned and it slid quite hard if the battery was pinched by the design shouldn't the device of just exploded then ?”

If the battery is being pinched, then surely you're right that it is something customers are doing as the final piece in a jigsaw.. perhaps the phone has flexed earlier when put in a pocket, or was dropped, shocked in some way. Who knows?

Surely the fact is you now know that some type of movement to the phone chassis can pinch the battery and trigger a fire. Thus, you don't want to keep it on your body at any time and probably not on anything flammable.

Get rid of it. Surely you have another device you can use in the meantime?

Although this is a disaster for Samsung, it's given all manufacturers something to think about!!

This may have a detrimental effect on all future Samsung phone releases if consumers have now lost faith in their products.

Apparently Samsung have permanently discontinued production of the Galaxy 7, this will cost them dearly.

Though there is at least the reassurance that Samsung, a global company, is doing something about it.

With say no-name (or 'little known name here') phones from China, one doesn't have the same assurance that there'd be be anything done about an issue, indeed there's no assurance any issue would necessarily be identified in the first place.

On the bigger picture, there's been concern about mobile devices (of all sorts - phones, tablets, laptops etc) with lithium-ion batteries for a while now. I think this will make manufacturers that bit more careful about the design and safety of their devices, and perhaps make regulators that bit more ready to investigate and intervene.

Well I posted earlier that my workplace is full of Samsung Galaxy S class users. They don't seem particularly bothered by this story. I think it's seen as a Note thing rather than a general Samsung thing.

Only Galaxy Note 7.

I guess Samsung could remotely disable all Note 7's after so much time has passed or flash a message on screen telling you to return it.

At any rate this is a poor start for the Note 7 after the Note 5 wasn't released in the EU. Its always been seen as a niche product over here. I find media comparisons to the iPhone 7 just silly. Its more comparable to a iPhone 7 Plus. But its a market Samsung were happy to ignore over here at any rate.

Apparently the devices will be relaunched in November - from Cape Canaveral...

The only phone I want to replace my note 7 is another samsung note series phone.

What annoyes me more than anything else is that I don't like any other smart phones. It is all about the S pen for me.

There is no equivalent to the note. In six months time or whatever samsung will launch a new note phone but I won't be due an upgrade.

Sales in the UK and most of Europe of the old Note models were low anyway.

The only reason we got the Note 7 this time around was because the S7e already had a bigger screen so there was not going to be a S7e+. Samsung figured it could try and shift a few here, and I bet it is regretting that now.

If it hadn't, the problem would have seemed more distant and less of an issue here.

Why not? What rule says you have to upgrade now and not in 6 months?

I've already upgraded to get the note 7 so I am now on a new contract. I waited to upgrade because I didn't see the point of the note 4 when the note five was swimming around other markets so I just waited for the next note.

When the note 7 came out I thought great I'll early adopt and pre order a phone for the first time.

Now even if a new note comes out I won't be able to get it. So I am stuck for two years with a phone I don't want.

You are not stuck with a phone you don't want if they are officially recalling the Note 7. You will be able to cancel your contract or they will offer you an alternative phone.

You can get out of your contract i'm sure the re-call can terminate contracts.

It is a massive inconvenience but you will be able to cancel your contract due to the faulty phone.
