It's self serving, he wants to win over the public by playing the opposite character of what he believes he's been wrongly labelled as.
Personally I think Jason's an allie his only gurantee, he'd be a fool to drop him and he'd look disloyal to the viewer's. Additionally Jason now being the game playing bad guy let's andy of the hook, both in terms of nominations by his fellow hms as they have a more dominant target presently and also with th public as they'll want to oust Jason out before him. He ain't no fool!!!
I can't stand him, but he's a smart game player. He'll play it any way to save his skin.
The guy wasn't loyal when he doubted Jason's character or honesty on several occasions.
