Yes I will be making an appointment with our vet tomorrow but wondered if anyone has known a dog to have a hernia? Well, I'm hoping that is going to be the outcome as I dread to think it could be anything worse.

We usually give her a good belly rub every day, at least once a day and didn't notice anything amiss yesterday. However today she has what feels like a lump about the size of a tennis ball just underneath in the centre of her lower chest/upper abdomen.

It's not painful for her as she doesn't object to us feeling it. She has been wearing a harness for a couple of weeks so I wonder if that might have done some internal damage.

Apart from the lump, everything else is normal, she's eating as normal, drinking as normal, sleeping as normal and just as excited to go for her walks. She is a lab cross of 8 years old.

Do dog's have strange lumps appear in that area that might be something and nothing?

Might just be a fatty lump, one of ours developed several over her life time scaring life out of us each time but nothing to worry about. Only way to tell though is let vet have a look and you are doing that already.

Is it soft and mobile? Fatty lumps are usually a bit squashy and move around a bit. They can suddenly appear. Hope thats all it is. Try measuring it and again just before you go to the vets so you can tell them whether it's growing rapidly.

It feels softish but doesn't feel like it is moving when I try to investigate it. It definitely doesn't cause her any pain but I know that's not always a good thing. I will keep an eye on it over the weekend, just wish I could have got an appointment for today. She hates going to the vet and gets really upset.

Hi my 16 year old border collie started getting lumps years back. The vet aspirated one and liquid came out and he said it was a fatty lump so haven't bothered much since - she has other health problems to bother about. A previous dog grew a huge one on his neck. We elected to leave it but it was getting bothersome so at the age of 13. it was removed - no problem.

Mine had a belly button hernia. I had it repaired. I could push it back in so knew it was a hernia. Another of mine had a lump appear on his side and I panicked like mad. It was just a lump from where he'd been lying on his side and it went.

Thanks to everyone I will post tomorrow after seeing the vet. At least for the time being she is acting the same as normal so it doesn't appear to be troubling her.

It is a Lipoma, she did draw off some fluid and put it under the microscope to determine if it was benign, phew sigh of relief. The only problem she has is that she is a bit overweight so we've got to cut her food down and when we've finished the current food put her on a weight reducing food.
