Nasty Nick wasn't that bad

What did he do, write on paper a name for other HMs to nominate. Going by current constant talks of nominating, it's a wonder we have any HMs.

To be honest, even back then i thought people overreacted. Maybe it's because i was still a kid but i didn't see what the fuss was all about. The media really went for him, he even made public apologies.

I think it's the most over the top reaction i have ever seen on this show to be honest, but without it, BB would probably never have lasted as long as it has.

It was the scandal of the century back then

But it was series one, it was all innocent, the rules were strict, it was taken seriously. You lived by the sword, you died by the sword.
Doesn't half make me laugh though looking back at the furore it caused

Ah those days seem so innocent now. Remember the way everyone thought that Mel girl was a bit of a man eater? We've gone from that to Marco and Laura.

He did lie about his fiance dying in a car accident.

That was low. He'd get proper lynched for that these days

The best lie though was claiming he'd been in the army or something, then seeing his hysterical attempts at getting across a playground assault course

He was a huge game player and a bit smarmy, but he did not spit in anyones face, threaten, or get physical with anyone. So, no...he was not that bad.

I think his legacy lives on in the House though. These days, if there is a calm, polite person who tries to be friends with everyone, people think they're playing a game. Which is exactly what Nasty Nick did, except no one considered it then.

That is true.

If a HM did that these days they'd probably just be punished by being sent to "jail" for a few hours

He wasn't. It was just the media and drama queens making a big fuss but hey what's new?

The other side to the Nasty Nick saga was of course that back then Big Brother didn't intervene. They knew he was doing it. They showed us him doing it. Members of the public were throwing notes into the compound trying to warn the housemates and Big Brother were gathering them up and disposing of them. The so called 'social experiment' side did sort of remain, in the sense that BB were trying not to interfere with what was playing out. They let the housemates discover it for themselves and uncover his scheme. Only then did they arrange his removal.

...also... and I'm genuinely not sure if this was a false memory or not... But didn't one of the tabloids attempt to get a message about nick to the housemates through use of an aeroplane banner?!

EDIT: Just re above. Just checked. The Sun hired a helicopter to drop leaflets into the compound about him!!

Back in the C4 days it seemed like one of the tabloids hired a plane to drag a banner over the house every year
