Laura hates Jason for one reason only, she said can get any man she wants, whenever she wants. But Jason has never even looked at her with any interest, I am not saying she desperately fancies him at all but the fact that he has paid her no attention at all, I think grinds her gears.

They did care, they knew there was a punishment - they just thought it was up to the OTHERS to make their OWN decisions.

Seemed fine to me. Laura wanted them to 'bless' their actions or join in, they don't have to do what she wants to make her feel good about it.
