Stranger Things
Don't know if there's already a topic for this in one of the other sub forums so sorry if it's a duplicate. I read a review for this Netflix original series today and it's got quite a lot of positive reviews on the whole. The trailers give off a Super 8/80s vibe. Seems to be one worth watching!

Watched the first one, very King / Spielberg.
Winona Ryder hasn't half aged. |

Another winner from Netflix, I'm really enjoying it. The child actors are excellent.

Halfway through and I'm really enjoying this. Very retro and the cast are superb. Very much reminds me of super 8 but better and creepier.

Just finished this.
My god. What a show. Everything was so well done from the acting to the way the characters stories came together to the 80s vibes to the horror elements, it was as close to perfection as a series of TV can come imo. Would absolutely love a series 2. |

Far too many rip off scenes of Poltergeist and E.T.

I fell asleep half way through episode three. And don't know if I'm interested enough to watch any more.

I'm quite liking it so far. Going to watch episode 4 next. I must say, though, that it's making me feel old seeing Winona Ryder playing the mother of a young man.

Err I believe that was the point lol
The point of the show was to copy scenes from E.T. and Poltergeist? Thats weird. |

It's paying homage to the 80s and is strongly influenced by Stephen King and Spielberg, have you not seen many shows that do homages?

Fantastic show, could've been the origin of The Mist in a way. Strangely, I was content with how it all ended but will be interesting to see what season two brings.

She is a 44 year old chain smoking woman, she looks perfectly normal for her age.
I can't think of any, give me an example. All that was missing was the little blonde girl in pigtails who stared at the wall to say "they're here!", and the Matt Modine character to have a set of keys jangling from his belt like in ET. I am not sure you are understanding the process behind the artistic direction that the makers have gone down. With Nostalgia being very popular at the moment a show such was waiting to be made |

Some of the songs used are way later than 1983.

Enjoyed it, great 80's feel to it, the acting is good and it had a fairly good ending.

Up to episode 4 now and loving it. Love anything 80's because it was most of my childhood.

I suppose one Man's homage is another Man's rip-off.
But I loved it. It was like a trip down memory lane, back to the day when I watched The Goonies on video and read King's Firestarter. But for me the closest thing it resembled was a Dean Koontz's book I read called Watchers. Anyway, the whole thing down to the Carpenter-esqe synth music was excellent, especially the kid's performances. The one downside? Winona Ryder was pretty awful. |
