The biggest mystery for me is how nobody, even her mother, seemed to noticed or care that Barb had gone missing.
To be fair there WAS a lot going on.

I've just finished blitzing through the eight episodes. I love all the nods and winks to old films, books and television shows. I did wonder if the second season was going to be a different story with new characters but the ending of episode eight means it's probably going to be a continuation of the season one storyline. I'm looking forward to it.

The biggest problem with keeping the same cast will be the age of the kids. Apparently they had big trouble in recording this season because some of the boy's voices were breaking.

I think it's an either/or thing. A lot may call it fall but the season is still autumn.

I thought the kids acted better than her.

Eleven is absolutely awesome!
She gives the X-Men a run for their money. Proper badass in the cute kind of way.

I thought the same. Acting was appropriate for the character yet she looked so much older than I remembered. Then i checked out a new youtube interview of her... phew! she still looks her normal sexy self.

I was mightily impressed by Stranger Things.

I would echo many of the sentiments already expressed on this thread - high praise for the 80's atmosphere evoked, the ethereal gungy spookiness, the music, quality baddies to boo and the outstanding performances by the kids, especially El - she was divine.

For young actors to carry a show that isn't aimed primarily at their peers is a remarkable achievement and I felt that they represented kids at that age SO well, no danger of any sugar-coated schmaltz from these guys which was a blessed relief.

The show satisfied in me something akin to what I used to get from Doctor Who but not anymore.
I dearly hope Stranger Things continues but if there is only one season it is good enough to stand alone in it's entirety and become a cult classic.
A triumph.

Really enjoyed this, I hope that's not the last we see of Eleven.

Actress who played her was in a show called Instruders that was on BBC 2 last year. The character she played was possessed by the spirit of a psychotic serial killer, she was absolutely incredible in that also.

She's really making waves in the industry.

Just finished this, really enjoyed it

I'm glad people felt for Barb, felt sorry for her more than Will in the end as no one seemed to give a damn about her

Wondering what they will do for the 2nd series?

Liked all the acting, I personally thought Winona was pretty good too!

I started watching this yesterday before the streaming service cut out, so am only about 3/4's through the first episode, though it does seem to have potential, and many of the replies here echo that sentiment.

I'm 3 episodes in and it's an extremely well made and written show.

I have a feeling that i'm going to struggle with the general plot though as I prefer my fantasy either grounded in reality (GOT) or outright ridiculous (Rick & Morty). Without giving up spoilers, it seems to me that a lot of the show is going to be based on the idea of 'hell on earth'.

Watched this as one episode per day over 8 days (which often I find much better than having to wait a week between episodes) and can only echo what has been said by others. I found it thoroughly enjoyable and thought pretty much all aspects of it were extremely well done. I am more of a TV shows buff than a films buff, so maybe I missed some of the nods to the movies from the 80's. When the stuff about electricity and the lights was happening I did think that it reminded me of the show "The Whispers" from summer last year, but that was the alien creature "Drill" communicating with the human children so not exactly the same. Big respect to Millie Bobby Brown, I didn't realise she is a Brit. All the actors and performances were outstanding though.

Did anyone else enjoy the first four episodes more than the latter four? I felt the mystery was solved at the end of the forth episode, then we got 3 episodes of the various character groups sort off threading water, till they all came together for a decent - if slightly predictable finale.

Good show, but prehaps not the classic it's being labelled as (for me anyway). Will definately watch a second series though.

Worth singing up to a Netflix free trial just to watch it,

I'm 6 episodes in now and the previous two have felt like they were meandering a bit.

There's a lot to love about this show but not much that's actually 'new' - it's the equivalent of a really good covers album. You know what's coming at every step (though will be happy to be proven wrong).

So finished watching this yesterday. I thought that it ended really strong; it's been a while since i've seen action scenes that actually had some meaning and danger behind them rather than just being CGI armageddon.

One thing:

Started watching this on Sunday and finished it last night, we stayed up way past our normal bedtime to squeeze the last episode in! Absolutely loved it.

As well as the obvious 80's horror/sci-fi homages, I also thought it was interesting how they tied the whole thing in to the game of Dungeons and Dragons the boys were playing in the first episode. Does anyone know if you roll 11, do you get a witch or sorceress or something similar (does it work like that? not played it!!).

That's a good analogy. For those of us of a certain age, the enjoyment came more from the nostalgia of times gone by. It would be interesting to hear what younger people thought of it.

I did read one interview with the creators who said the problem with writing these days is that everyone has a smartphone on them so it's hard to get the same sense of suspense and mystery.
