Started watching this on Sunday and finished it last night, we stayed up way past our normal bedtime to squeeze the last episode in! Absolutely loved it.

As well as the obvious 80's horror/sci-fi homages, I also thought it was interesting how they tied the whole thing in to the game of Dungeons and Dragons the boys were playing in the first episode. Does anyone know if you roll 11, do you get a witch or sorceress or something similar (does it work like that? not played it!!).
In Dungeons and Dragons the player tells the game master what they would like to do and then they roll a dice to see if they are successful or not. The dice score needed is dependent on how difficult the action is they want to do and whether their 'character' has good pre-existing stats.

For example - if my character was a warrior and i want to attack a normal monster then the game master might decided that I only need to roll a 5 or more on the 20 sided dice in order to be successful and cause damage. However if I was trying to cast a spell (presumably my warrior isn't good at spells) he might say that I need to roll at least 15 to do so.

So what happens when you roll an 11 is entirely dependent on what it is you're trying to do.

I just started watching this last night (did eps 1 - 3) . Dont want to read through all the posts in case of spoilers but can anyone tell me does it have an "end " or is it a cliffhanger that means we need S2 to know what the hell is going on ? I usually only watch shows I know are concluded but got sucked in by the hype ! Really enjoying it thus far.

Yes it does have a satisfactory ending but a few little teasers are shown at the end that hint what direction S2 would take if given the green light. Being as the show has received universal acclaim i can't see Netflix not giving it a second season

Did we ever find out why El was born with her abilities? If not, that's a good story thread to follow for season 2. I'm sure we will see her mother again. Also, the 'Upside Down' creeping into the normal world...more monsters, more people like El. All of this is most likely where they will go.

Yes, it was fully explained. Experiments were done on the mother while she was pregnant with LSD. And obviously with her being taken from "birth" her entire life was spent developing her abilities.

I watched it all in one sitting weeks ago and I did like the fact it was 8 episodes but I did feel at the end of the series that it was good the way it was, it doesn't need another series.

I think the main reason I think that was is it was nice to have a story begin and end with X number of episodes and anymore might have spoiled it a bit. I also think I went into it expecting something a little different. I wasn't keen on the upside down part of the story. Really I would have liked a UFO/alien story where weird things happen, people disappear, maybe things happening in the town or the town is taken over and it's up to the kids to figure it out but that's my fault for thinking it was going that way.

Thinking this was a ten-episode series, I watched episode 8 yesterday thinking it very odd to end there. Imagine my surprise when I found out there was no episode 9.

I loved the show, most of the characters, though the mother was a little too whiney, and the daughter needs to eat a Burger or ten. I can't remember the character names. I would further conclude that I don't think the series needs a second season, but it is apparently getting one so it'll be interesting to see how they develop it.

I figure either they're going to find more of these worlds, or they're going to further explore the world where the creature (and presumably, more creatures) come from?

Really liked this. Pleased with the ending - enough stuff tied up with enough strands for a second season. Which netflix would be crazy not to commission.

I've been reading a couple of theories lately that Eleven is actually that Monster, or at leas she created it, and that this other world is her creation, and that those worm creatures (that was coughed up) become Monsters (so, more of them in Season 2, though in the real world?)

Finished this the other day myself, loved the feel of it and happy with the ending. However, I really don't think they should continue season 2 with the same characters. It's title and opening credits are generic enough that each season could be it's own self contained story, taking place in a different town and different eras, etc.

The problem with continuing with the same group of characters is simply, how realistic it would be that these people wouldn't be traumatised by each season events.

I just hope they prove me wrong and provide another strong season within the same town and same characters (no doubt there will be some new characters introduced).

It was only the mother, sheriff and kids that knew the true extent of everything that went on. Kids are quick to adapt and move on as they don't always fully understand what's going on around them, at least not to the extent of adults. The Sherriff seems a little hardy, so he'll be okay, and the mother, well, she seems to be a tad emotional anyway, but as long as she has her kids with her, she'll be okay. There's the three teenagers too, but they've seemingly managed to get over it.

It's only if the town had become overrun with creatures that they'd have to better explain what's going on. I don't think the show would work in another town, because everything that's going on is happening at that lab, and that's in this down. The story centres around El, so wherever she is, that'll be where the show is.

The only problem they're going to have moving forward is the kids; they'll grow up quick, especially if the show manages to last for 4-6 series.

I wasn't keen on the other world parts so I hope the next season doesn't continue that part of the story. What might be interesting is moving on a decade and showing the very early computers, maybe the kids in high school and they get their first ever PCs and they're trying the internet for the very first time and they somehow figure out something similar is happening in a different state or country and they all band together to go to a new location and try and fix it but it's just people on message boards talking about weird things happening and then someone takes a photograph of Eleven and that confirms it.

There still has not been an official statement by Netflix, that is the one that matters.

Not read this thread and we only started watching this with the first two episodes last night. It's like Steven Spielberg meets the Cohen brothers. Great entertainment and really well done.

As ever being slow to catch on, I'm just watching this now and up to episode 4. Really enjoying this, l particularly love the atmosphere and soundtrack and the photography is great, it reminds me of the work of photographer Gregory Crewdson.

I was 12 during the time the series is being set and get a real sense of the nostalgia of the early 80's. Not finished watching yet but remain hooked and I'm sure will be hoping for a second series by the end

Just finished this, what a great show! Loved the 80s vibe and the nods to various movies. All of the characters were likeable and Eleven in particular was fantastic. The scene where she saved Mike from falling into the lake gave me chills. Can't wait for a second series.

Where do they pluck these numbers from? 9, 13, 23? Why can't we just round things up to 10 and 20?

At least it's more than the usual 6 episodes of UK shows.

Is it going to be a new story and new cast or a follow on?
