I know female cats are smaller then males but my female kitten is very small compared to the same age as my male cat. I'm just wondering what age a cat gets to their full size. My male cat is 11 years old so it's a bit too long to remember well.
My kitten is roughly 11 months old and I've read that they reach full size at around a year but she's just so small compared to him. In fact she still has a very kittenish look about her.

She's healthy btw. No issues with food or drink and is very active. But I do wonder at her earlier life that may have affected her rate of growth. (Taken far too young from her mother and then left to fend for herself by being dumped. And I was I think her fourth home and she was only 7 weeks estimated by the vet when I took her in. )

So has she more growing to do or is she doomed to be kitten cute for the rest of her life?

It's a bit difficult to tell her size, based on that one pic, but thanks for it anyway because she's beautiful. She looks like my little scaredy-cat Polly, so I'm probably biased! Fab name for her, by the way.

I've got my scaredy-cat and her litter mate, and when you see them both standing or sitting together, Polly looks a third smaller than her sister. When we got them both weighed, however, there was only 0.1 kilo of difference between the weights. What we surmised was that Polly held herself 'smaller' because she was so timid, so it was pretty much just optical illusion in a way.

I think my point is that they don't always show their full size, and I think 11 months is still cat adolescence, so Houdini's got a bit more growing to do yet.

If you could show a pic of both of your cats, it'd help, I think, but I wouldn't worry. My son's neutered tom cat is a huge thing and he's only just 2. He's far bigger than my two little girls, and has been for a while, and they're 6 and a half now.

The only downside I can see about a cat staying kittenish, though, is the emotional blackmail they can exert.

They must be distantly related my cat and your Polly. Houdini is a skittish thing as well. She's fine indoors but outside she is less certain. Of course she acts fine but stays well away from other people (I've tried introductions but she just squirms to get away from my arms and nmore importantly away from the strange person) and even runs from me if I get too near sometimes. Although I suspect part of that is because she knows I'll bring her in or she's playing.

I'm hoping she's due another growth soon because she already knows the blackmail routine.

I'#ll try and get a side by side of them together but it might be hard. Whilst my male cat has accepted her into the home he doesn't like her much. He gets hissy and slappy if she touches him. He's like "NO Touchy!" But other then that and a stink eye he leaves her alone. My best bet is when they're eating. Both are too engrossed in the food to care about the other and I have one of those split bowls. So I'll attempt to take a picture of that tomorrow.

My Polly won't go outside if I don't go with her, and she's constantly looking back over her shoulder to make sure the back door's still open, for her quick dash to safety if she needs it.

Visitors never see her - I'm sure people think I've got this imaginary cat I keep talking about, because she's always in one of her little hidey-holes when anyone comes round.

Polly's own sister and her don't get along that well either, so I wouldn't worry about your tom and Houdini. I don't know whether a "not getting along" thing is more usual, but I do feel jealous of people who have cats who'll all curl up to together for a nap!

For all that, she's a little sweetheart. When you get the trust, and your scaredy-cat curls up on your lap for a good sleep, it's such a feeling of achievement. You know she trusts you not to hurt her or scare her, and that, to me, is an amazing feeling.

Don't be sorry. We love our kitties. And you Polly sounds adorable. Houdini isn't as bad but not every cat can be super confident.

And yes I also get jealous of seeing images or videos of cats cuddling. I think if she could Houdini would be cuddly too but my male, Yoshi isn't really a cat liking cat.

Anyway with a bit of chicken persuasion I've taken some cat shots of them side by side. I took a few because some angles might be deceptive. I guess for the record Yoshi my boy is just over average for an adult male cat if other cat comparisons are any indication.

Cat growth is pretty breed dependent as well as individual variation. Our Maine Coons were still growing at 4. Thankfully they seem to have stopped now!

Yoshi's a handsome devil too. Such a glossy coat! You can see across their shoulders that there's a little bit extra weight on Yoshi than Houdini, but it really isn't that much, especially considering the age difference. There's a bit of height difference, too (paws to shoulders), but not a lot.

Both cats look like they're in fantastic condition - just look at how the light gleams on the silky fur. Awww - goddamnit, don't let me adopt another cat, because my sons will disown me I think. Or they'll run off with him/her, one of the two.

If you've got bathroom scales at home, weigh yourself, make a note of it, then pick up one of the cats. The difference in the weights is the cat's weight. Do that twice, and I bet you'll be surprised.

Houdini is gorgeous!

Houdini is a beauty! Is she a British marbled shorthair? She looks like my baby Chloé.
My Chloé wasn't fully grown at a year old, she was still ickle. She's just under two and a half now and I think she's stopped growing. Took about two years for her.

I just assumed Houdini was a regular moggie. The pictures are a bit deceptive as her muzzle is fairly normal just kittenish still. She was dumped originally so I can't say if she's an actual breed but I don't think she is. She's just a classic tabby mog.
