Totally confused about data issue
Hi
I hope someone can please help because I am so confused right now. I have a new phone contract (Samsung A3 2016). I love the phone but I just don't understand what's up with my mobile data. The only way I can get 4G to kick in is if I start dialing a random number first, at which point Bang; my reception strength hits 4 bars and 4G appears. If I don't dial a number then no 4G and 1 bar of reception. In my settings menu have the following 4 options: • LTE/3G/2G (auto connect) • 3G/2G (auto connect) • 3G only • 2G only If i select any of the bottom 3 options above, data automatically works and my phone reception is strong (no 4G of course), but as soon as I select the top option I get no data and reception is at 1 bar, unless I dial a random number as previously mentioned. I hope that all makes sense to someone here because it confuses the hell out of me. Tesco have now told me twice that it is due to a large number of masts being worked upon in my area. If that's true, then that's the whole of Surrey! I did however talk to 02 who tell me that no masts are being worked on. So is Tesco lying to me? Thanks |

It sounds as if you have a very weak 4G (known as LTE) signal, which is used for data. When you make a phone call your phone switches to 3G (or 2G) which is much closer and stronger.
If you get good 4G when out and about and use WiFi at home, I would leave 4G turned on. If you need to use mobile data at home then turn 4G off. Remember the networks are improving every day. |

How come I have a great solid 4G signal after I quickly dial then disconnect a call? If I change network mode to 3G/2G (auto connect), I then get H+ instantly, and without the need to dial and disconnect a random number to get that. I also don't understand why changing Network modes alters the bar signal, or is the bar signal and data mode one of the same. Another householder here gets 4G without the need of dialing and dsiconnecting a number, and her phone would be classed as cheap compared to mine. Edit> she's also with Tesco Mobile. |
