Maybe they also had their names on the front as well.
Their names were on both sides. There was a bit where for a second you could see them when the camera panned a certain way.
I'm sure there were names on the back as well as the front. otherwise you would have seen at least one of the have a quick run round the front to check their name. otherwise they were told beforehand when Emma says stand behind your name. just pick any old one

Firstly, absolute nonsense. the names were on both sides. Second, and most importantly, why the hell would it matter if they had known where to stand? As conspiracy theories go, this is a classic!

The eviction was due to phone votes then housemate votes, nothing to do with the podiums...

Not really just another non surprise
I think it's safe to assume that the Producers knew exactly who would vote for whom, so arranged the podiums in an order to try and keep the suspense going as long as possible.
