Does BB suffer from the same problem as Hollywood?

Films have to appeal to as many people as possible and over the years have sacrificed character development and script writing for big budget effects and low brow humour.

The trouble with that is there's no real connection to the characters and consequently people don't' really care about them. You can throw millions at the special effects department and have big set pieces but they always fall flat because there's no sense of connection.

I see something similar with BB, over the years we've had genuine characters with beliefs they were prepared to stand by. There have been quirky characters but they were genuinely quirky not 'put-on'.
Now we seem to have these shallow, superficial people who are so self aware (and self absorbed) who think that being loud and having arguments is entertainment. Again, the trouble is without a sense of connection none of it means anything. The producers can create these big set pieces of 'drama' but ultimately it always falls flat because it's difficult to invest in people who don't have anything below the surface and what is there isn't pretty.

It's like the week they had to resist temptation, the drama was meant to be resisting something you desperately wanted for the betterment of the house when what it turned into was 'how many points have we got to spend?'

It's sad really, I'll draw a line there because nobody likes to read a rant but I wondered if anyone else felt the same?

I must applaud the make-up artists for Alex's invisibility make-up

Yeah I've thought this for a while. I would compare it to the soaps rather than Hollywood though. There is no character development anymore, they rely on 'Annihilations' and twists like the soaps rely on stunts and shock returns. They don't allow the storylines to develop through character interaction it is through the 'shocks' and 'surprises' the producers throw at them.

Take Ashleyne for example in BB7. She went through so much and we saw so many different sides to her and she went from the brash, liary with seemingly little depth but throughout her time we saw a strong, more caring, vulnerable girl who finished in third place and was very popular. You just don't get that kind of journey and development anymore.

Yes, there are good points made there.
When something in the house starts happening naturally BB appear to try to push that story forward and by the nature of their interference turn it into something which becomes artificial.

The diary room is probably the biggest culprit and the most effective tool which is used to interfere with reality by the nature of the questions BB ask housemates when they are trying to further a narrative and want something to happen. Housemates catch on very quickly to what must be getting attention on the outside if BB are focusing on a certain line of questioning in the diary room
Ideally BB should not be giving them any clues whatsoever about what might be capturing the viewers' attention. They should be left completely blind to the outside world.

When BB get carried away with something happening in the house and can't resist trying to make it happen more because they really want it to, that's when things are usually spoiled.
