Re original post, I'm half and half on the character of Derek Branning. I didn't particularly like him but then we weren't supposed to! What I didn't like was pat being scared of him - she was scared of no one - and Kat having an affair with him was ridiculous. I'd have bought her having an affair with jack, but not Derek!

No way, I found Derek hilarious. My personal highlights was the time when he had the extremely tall date which then caused the whole pub (even Phil) to laugh. Also the train journey back to the square when they were playing football. Dereks banter was on point.

The worst character imo is a current one, Shakil is just a complete nonentity. The actor playing him has absolutely no charisma and I can barely understand a word he says and why does he talk so quietly? One of the worst casting choices ever, he should stick to signing.

I never understood why Kat chose Derek to have an affair with either, (apart from the fact that it was in the script) I too could understand her choosing Jack or even Max but not Derek.
