Shirley Carter mainly because she is an overdone caricature especially in EastEnders.

Derek Branning: just utterly awful in every way. His presence made the show unwatchable for months on end.

Joey Branning: Paper-thin 'character' and the actor was embarrassingly bad. Couldn't understand what he was saying half the time.

Tyler/Anthony Moon: the 'new Mitchell brothers' apparently Cringiest characters ever.

Ava Hartman: complete mess of a character, her backstory changed on a weekly basis.

Dexter Hartman: So. Annoying.

The Hartman father: can't even remember his name he was that bad. The Hartman family were the biggest flop the show has ever seen.

Gavin Sullivan: oh boy, they messed this one up big time. About as threatening as a garden gnome.

A lot of jealousy of Comedy Gav on this thread. Just because none of you have a Fun House.

Kat has been terrible at times...BUT Jesse Wallace has pulled her back round when it's been needed. The production of Kat should have made her awful but Jesse has single handedly saved her.

I no longer watch EE so will have missed recent disasters.

My most disliked character is Sandra de Marco (Tip: if you want to find out who she is, google "Sandra de Marco Eastenders". If you google "Sandra de Marco", you'll get a porn star - which might be the prefered option for some FMs).

I quite liked Rosa de Marco and the oldest three children in that family. But I really disliked Beppe's estranged wife Sandra who I felt was wet and bland. Her main storyline (Rosa disliked her as she wanted Beppe to marry an Italian woman) was ridiculous. Then they axed all the family except Beppe (I assumed they kept him only because his portrayer Michael Greco was popular - mainly as a sex symbol). Sadly to give Beppe something to do and justify is continued presence they wrote Sandra back in as a regular. She was really dull and pointless. Then it was revealed she was cheating on Beppe all along and we got endless scenes of her literally stalking Beppe and involved in a custody battle with him over their (equally dull and pointless) son Joe.

I also thought the Asian family that replaced Naima and Saeed in the early years were very dull. I felt the Tavernier family (mainly the parents) seemed awkward and forced.

The Hartman Can Sam, Ava and Dexter were annoying.

I may be in a minority, but I think Steve McFadden should be sacked. He has ruined the Phil character into a one dimensional unemotional buffoon.

Sacking him would also send shockwaves through the cast and prove that nobody is bigger than the show.

Steve McFadden doesn't write the character so he hasn't ruined anything.

And if you axe Phil you might as well call it a day on the entire show.

I think that Eastenders is very lucky to have actors like Steve because lets face it the Mitchells are the only interesting characters in it at the moment in my view

Phil is completely the opposite of one dimensional in my view anyway. I don't particularly like Phil but Steve humanises him so well that I always feel sympathy for him even when he's in the wrong

Phil is one of the few dynamic characters left. He gets stories going; he gives the show (and characters around him) momentum in a way many others can't. The strength of the character allows him to bounce back from some truly despicable acts and yet still be seen as a figure of sympathy. Phil is EastEnders for me. If he (or Sharon) were to leave the show my enthusiasm for watching would drop to about zero.

Totally agree.

The stuff between him and grant was absolutely fantastic too. It felt really like classic Eastenders.

I think you'll find that Steve McFadden has power of veto over his character's storylines.

No other member of the cast has that kind of power, and this is why he is not liked by some of the other egos
